Growing families looking for a compact SUV that will best fit their car seats have good choices. A new study from Cars.com says the 2021 Subaru Forester is rated one of the best. The refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester is arriving soon with more safety features.
The Subaru Forester checks many boxes for how safe you will be driving the SUV, and it's one of the most family-friendly. The top box could be because it's one of the best small SUVs for fitting your car seats easily. According to Cars.com, Forester ranks tops for cars that make car seat installation a breeze.
The new ranking recognizes the vehicles that earned A's for their car seat checks. A car receives A, B, or C grades in categories that test fit for an infant seat, a rear- and forward-facing convertible seat, a booster seat, and the Latch system for ease of use. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives Forester the top rating for ease of use.
The Subaru Forester back seat fits car seats easily
Having a vehicle with the best LATCH hardware (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) makes a vehicle best for growing families. In recent IIHS testing, the Subaru Forester ranked highest in 2021 model ratings with the top GOOD+ score.
In the Cars.com test, the Forester gets near-perfect A grades except for the RFC: Rear-facing convertible car seat, where it scores a B. The other top compact SUV, the Nissan Rogue, gets A's except for the FFC: Forward-facing convertible, achieving a B grade. The Hyundai Santa Fe scores all B's except for Infant: Rear-facing infant seat scoring an A grade. The Mazda CX-5 scored last with two Cs and a B grade.
The Subaru Forster is family-friendly
In addition to getting near perfect As in car seat installation, the Forester gets the highest IIHS safety scores earning a Top Safety Pick+ award. The next-generation Subaru Forester also features a Rear Seat Reminder upgrade reminding the driver to check the rear seat before exiting the SUV.
