Update -A Used Subaru Crosstrek And WRX Still Cost More Than A New Model

Should you buy a new 2022 Subaru Crosstrek, 2022 Subaru WRX or STI, or a used model? If you can find one, a new model costs less than a used model, according to an updated study by iSeeCars.

iSeeCars’s analyzed over one million new and lightly used cars from the 2020 and 2021 model years listed for sale in November 2021. They found the price gap between a one-to-two-year-old used car has drastically narrowed, and some new vehicles like the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek and 2022 WRX and STI are still less expensive than a used model.

Why are some Subaru model prices higher for used over new?

A new report from Kelly Blue Book (KBB) says wholesale prices car dealers pay for used cars rose by nearly 5 percent in the first half of November. “That likely means the retail prices buyers pay are set to rise again this month,” says KBB.

The increase came even as the available supply of used cars improved. “Used retail supply is now at normal levels,” Cox Automotive reports.

“Used car prices have risen overall, and prices have dramatically increased for certain in-demand models that may be harder to find on new car lots,” said iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer. “Dealers may think used car buyers are willing to pay more for the instant gratification of a lightly-used vehicle they can drive right off the lot rather than waiting for a new one.”

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek has been a hot model for Subaru of America all year, and buyers might want to wait for the 2022 Crosstrek. iSeeCars analysis reveals a new Subaru Crosstrek sells for $30,039, and used prices are $31,785 (5.5%.), $1,746 more than a new model.

The 2022 Subaru WRX arrives early next year, and iSee Cars analysis reveals a new Subaru WRX sells for $34,166, and used prices are $36,029 (5.8%.), $1,863 more than a new model.

The two Subaru models make the iSeeCars 15 Cars That Cost More Used Than New list with the Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV ranked tenth, and the Subaru WRX sports car ranked twelfth overall.

When can you buy the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek?

The 2022 Crosstrek and Hybrid models will begin arriving at Subaru retailers in the first quarter of 2022.

When can you buy the 2022 Subaru WRX and STI?

Look for the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX to be in Subaru showrooms in early 2022. Unless you can wait, buying a used model may be the only option, but you will pay more. Performance enthusiasts will have to wait for the next-generation 2023 WRX STI to roll out a year later.
