Updated CR’s Most-Loved SUVs And Why Subaru Crosstrek And Forester Make Up Half

What are the SUVs that owners love the most? According to a new report from Consumer Reports, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek and 2024 Subaru Forester are the best.

Which new Subaru SUVs do owners love the most? An updated Consumer Reports (by subscription) ranking says among mainstream models, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV and the 2024 Subaru Forester account for half of their top SUVs. I cover them all the time. Here's why.

Consumer Reports exclusive survey-based ratings point to the new SUVs that satisfy owners the most. CR says the models that top the owner satisfaction ratings "deliver on the manufacturer's promises of luxury, fuel and energy efficiency (gas or electric), or pulse-quickening performance are often the ones that most satisfy owners."

What sets the Crosstrek and Forester apart from the competition?

The significant difference between the Crosstrek, Forester, and the small SUV competition is that they both come standard with all-wheel drive and X-Mode, which you won't pay extra for the all-weather, all-terrain features. In addition, they have 8.7 inches of ground clearance, get the highest IIHS safety scores, and are affordable, fuel-efficient, and fun to drive.

What is the price of the 2024 Subaru Forester compact SUV?

The Forester comes in six trim levels: The Base Forester starts at $28,190, Premium ($31,390), Sport ($32,960), Limited ($35,070), Wilderness ($36,015), and Touring ($38,490). Pricing includes destination and dealer fees ($1,295).

What is the price of the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV?

For 2024, the Crosstrek is available in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Wilderness trim levels and has a starting price of $26,290 (the same MSRP as the 2023 Base model equipped with the Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission).

The 2024 Crosstrek Premium has a starting price of $27,440, Sport ($30,290), and Limited ($32,190). Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,225). 

What is the price of the Crosstrek Wilderness?

The all-new Crosstrek Wilderness costs $33,290, including dealer destination and delivery fees ($1,295).

2024 Crosstrek fuel mileage

You can have an all-wheel-drive SUV and still get good fuel efficiency. For example, the Subaru Crosstrek uses direct injection on its new 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine, getting 26/33 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg. In addition, the 2.0-liter engine gets 27/34 mpg and 29 combined mpg with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) automatic, contributing to better mileage.

The Crosstrek Wilderness gets 25/29 city/highway mpg and 27 combined mpg.

2024 Forester fuel mileage

The 2024 Subaru Forester compact SUV has standard all-wheel drive and an EPA-estimated 29 combined mpg and 26/33 city/highway mpg. All Forester trim levels come with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine.

The EPA says the Forester Wilderness gets an estimated 25/28 city/highway mpg and 26 combined mpg.

Consumer Reports reveals the SUVs that satisfy owners. The most loved SUVs are the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV and the 2024 Forester compact SUV, which make up half the mainstream models you can buy this year.
