If you've tried to buy a 2022 Subaru Outback midsize SUV or a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV, you know how hard they are to find. Like all automakers, the supply chain shortages have severely limited the inventory of Subaru's all-wheel-drive models.
There are two areas where Outback and Crosstrek sell the most and will be the hardest to find for new-car shoppers in 2022. The new study from iSeeCars looked at over 17.4 million vehicle sales in 2021 to determine the most popular used and new cars across the U.S. nationally, by metro area, and by state.
Even with the new car shortages, some areas of the country have been able to get more of the 2022 Outback and 2022 Crosstrek than some metro areas and states. A new report from iSeeCars says the 2022 Outback is most popular in Portland, Oregon. The Outback has a 4.9 percent share of total Portland metro area new car sales, even beating the Ford F-150.
The report from iSeeCars says the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is most popular in Vermont. The Crosstrek subcompact SUV has a 3.4 percent share of Vermont's total state new car sales, even beating the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

Pricing includes $1,125 destination and delivery fees.
What is the price of the 2022 Crosstrek?
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek comes in five trim levels for customers. The base trim is priced from $23,570, Premium ($24,720), Sport ($27,920), Limited ($29,420) and Crosstrek Hybrid ($37,895). Prices include destination and delivery fees that increase +$75 ($1,125).
Are there Outback and Crosstrek inventory shortages in 2022?
Because of the supply chain shortages, Subaru of America has a limited inventory of models like the 2022 Forester, Crosstrek, and Outback. Check with your local retailer for more information.
When will Outback and Crosstrek inventory improve?
Subaru Corporation CEO Tomomi Nakamura told Automotive News (by subscription) recently that Subaru's current U.S. inventory level is extremely low, around 5,000 to 6,000 units. "That's basically about a five-day supply for the U.S. market. Next year (2022), we will have to rebuild this inventory to normal levels. And we think that's going to take about a year, through gradual buildup."
The 2022 Subaru Outback is most popular in Portland, Oregon, and the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is the best-selling model in Vermont. Both will be particularly hard to find in one metro area and one state.
