Which new Subaru all-wheel-drive model has the best seat quality and satisfaction with new owners? It would make sense that it would be the most expensive model, the Subaru Solterra EV Touring trim, with an MSRP of $54,110, including dealer fees.
But the Solterra is missing from the recent list from the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Seat Quality and Satisfaction Study. The best mass-market (non-luxury) vehicle for seat quality and owner satisfaction is Subaru's lowest-priced model, the Impreza compact car.
Compact cars usually have uncomfortable seats, but the 2023 Impreza has impressive seats, according to the J.D. Power seat quality and owner satisfaction report.
Power says seat quality is measured by the number of problems and level of satisfaction experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership, with a lower score reflecting higher quality.
The 2023 U.S. Seat Quality and Satisfaction Study is based on responses from 93,380 purchasers and lessees of new 2023 model-year vehicles surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study was fielded from February through May 2023.
The 2023 Subaru Impreza wins the mass-market small and compact car category with a score of 5.8, the best in the segment. The Kia Rio is next, with a score of 6.1; the third best is the Volkswagen Golf, with a score of 7.5.

Another surprise is the 2023 Subaru Outback is tied with the Chevrolet Blazer for the best seat quality score in the mass-market midsize/large SUV category. Both models scored 7.6, with the second-place Honda Pilot and third-place Kia Sorento scoring 9.1.
Even more surprising is the Subaru Impreza, with a score of 5.2, has a better score than the Audi Q8 in the Premium Car segment, with a score of 5.3.
