Edmunds released their “Best Retained Value” awards and the 2018 Subaru WRX gets Best Sports Car. The newly-updated 2018 WRX beats two popular American sports cars, the Chevy Camaro and the Ford Mustang receiving honorable mention. How does it affect the lease payment?
When buying a new car, many sports car buyers don’t think about the true value of a performance vehicle beyond the sticker price and monthly payments. Edmunds says, understanding how much a car will depreciate “is the key to getting the most for your money before you drive off the lot.”
The 2018 Edmunds Best Retained Value Awards recognize the brands and models that have the highest projected private party residual value five years after their launch, expressed as a percentage of their average True Market Value, and are part of our ongoing effort to highlight overall vehicle value for shoppers.
It’s important to know that vehicles with strong residual values help maximize your money at trade-in, and also tend to have lower monthly lease payments. The new 2018 Subaru WRX is a standout winner in this category. The 2018 Subaru WRX has a starting MSRP of $26,995, the 2018 Chevy Camaro starts at $25,905 and the 2018 Ford Mustang $25,680. The award from Edmunds isn’t the first award for the performance sedan.
A long list of best-retained value awards
The 2018 WRX scored again in Kelley Blue Book’s (KBB) annual Best Resale Value in the Best Sporty Compact Car category. It was the fourth consecutive year the sports-tuned 2018 WRX wins its segment.
The 2018 Subaru WRX and WRX STI were also awarded the “Best Sports Car” values on the planet in ALG’s recent 2018 Residual Value Awards. The high-performance sedans score number one for having the best residual value in the hotly contested Sports Car segment.
According to Kelly Blue Book, ALG, and Edmunds, the newly-refreshed 2018 Subaru WRX and WRX STI are the best performance car values on the planet and retain their value better than all other sports cars in America including the Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang. For this reason, if you are thinking of buying a used WRX or STI, it might be better to check out the new 2018 WRX/STI because older models hold their value so well. The new WRX high residual value also gives the sports car a lower lease payment.
