Your 3 Best Used Small SUV Values - Subaru Crosstrek Tops The List

If you are shopping for a used small SUV, check out three models that have seen the lowest price increases. See why the Subaru Crosstrek is the best value.

With the well-documented chip shortage, some new cars are hard to find, and shoppers turn to previously owned models. Consumer Reports says, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, used-car prices have jumped 21 percent since April 2020, and 10 percent of that increase was in April 2021.

iSeeCars recently published the top ten used cars with the most significant price increases and used models with the smallest price changes. Pickup trucks and sports cars have seen the greatest price increases in April. One small car, the Mitsubishi Mirage, has increased 25.9 percent, an increase of $2,313.

But some small SUVs have seen the smallest price changes, including the Subaru Crosstrek, Mazda CX-3, and Honda HR-V. The Subaru Crosstrek has seen the slightest difference at 1.4 percent, an increase of just $314. The Mazda CX-3 has gone up 6.3 percent, an increase of $1,062. The Honda HR-V has gone up the most 6.96 percent, an increase of $1,203.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Consumer Reports just updated their best used cars for younger drivers' recommendations.

The IIHS and Consumer Reports picked the 2016 or newer Subaru Forester (small SUV), 2013 or newer Subaru Outback (midsize car), 2017 or newer Subaru Crosstrek (small car), 2019 Impreza (small car), and 2013 or newer Legacy (midsize car) as best used vehicle picks.

A recent story from The Herald News says new car buyers are turning to used models because they have to wait months for a new Subaru model. Al Viera, general manager of Stateline Subaru, noted it could take three to four months to deliver a new Subaru in a particular color with specific features.

Some customers are unwilling to wait and can find a 2017 or newer Subaru Crosstrek, Forester, or Outback all-wheel-drive model.

iSeeCars says the average used Subaru Crosstrek in April 2021 was $22,440, and the price in 2020 was $22,126, a 1.4 percent increase. Crosstrek has seen the smallest price change of any small SUV and a good value for shoppers this summer.
