Cybertruck Delivery Wait Times Fall to Less Than a Week On Tesla’s Website, Immediate Delivery Options Available in Some Areas

Wait times between Cybertruck orders and deliveries have fallen to as little as a few days. You can now order a brand new Cybertruck without reservation and have it delivered in a few days. Tesla is even offering some Cybertruck buyers immediate delivery.

In a surprising turn of events, it has become easier to obtain a Cybertruck than any of Tesla’s other vehicles.

Looking at Tesla’s online configurator, delivery dates for some Cybertruck variants have fallen to less than a week. The Cybertruck All-Wheel-Drive now has delivery dates between August and September, which means you can take delivery of a Cybertruck in as little as six days.

This is surprising given that over a million people had reserved a Cybertruck. Only last year, based on the reservation backlog, Elon Musk had predicted the Cybertruck was sold out until 2027.

However, contrary to what Elon Musk expected, the demand for the Foundation Series Cybertrucks is so low that you can order the vehicle today and have it delivered in less than a week.

However, if you think the Cybertruck wait time of less than a week is bad, several individuals online report being contacted to take Cybertruck deliveries less than a day after ordering.

Simon Wang is a prospective Cybertruck owner, and he writes, “Does Tesla have a surplus of these Cybertrucks in the Dallas area now? I just placed an order last night after work for my all-wheel-drive model, and this morning, I got a text saying it’s time to schedule my Cybertruck delivery!”

Simon was taken aback by how quickly Tesla wanted him to take delivery of his Cybertruck. Following his post, Simon asked the Tesla community how to delay his Cybertruck delivery to a more convenient date.

Simon writes, “The app only gave three available dates for Cybertruck delivery, and I’ll be out of town all three days. Does anyone know how to schedule for blacked-out dates further down the line?”

People were paying $80,000 over MSRP only a few months ago to get a Cybertruck quicker. Now, they are inquiring online about how they can delay their Cybertruck deliveries…How things have changed in only a few months.

Looking at Tesla forums online, Simon is far from the only person assigned an immediate Cybertruck delivery date. Several people have shared online that they were shocked and unprepared for how quickly Tesla wanted them to take delivery.

Unfortunately, this is symptomatic of a larger Foundation Series Cybertruck sales trend. In Canada, Tesla only opened up Cybertruck orders last week. However, the EV maker ran through the entire Canadian Cybertruck reservation list in only six days.

People who reserved a Cybertruck in Canada as late as December 2023 are already getting invites to take delivery of their truck.

What Happened to the Reservation List?

Price is the biggest hurdle Tesla faces when trying to convert Cybertruck reservations to sales. In 2019, Tesla said the Cybertruck would start at $39,900; however, today, the cheapest Cybertruck for sale costs $100,000.

This massive price hike has decreased the addressable market for the Cybertruck by 50-fold. This means 50 times more people can afford a Cybertruck at the $40,000 price than people who can afford a $100,000 vehicle.

Given this massive price change, it’s not surprising that many people who reserved their Cybertruck at the original $39,900 have been priced out of buying the truck.

However, putting the money issue aside for a moment, there are also difficulties with the less-than-advertised range. In 2019, Tesla said the longest-range Cybertruck could travel 500 miles between charges.

However, currently, the longest-range Cybertruck can only go 340 miles. Range is the biggest factor people consider when buying any electric vehicle; however, the issue is further amplified in electric pickup trucks, which are expected to tow long distances and haul heavy objects.

One Tesla Cybertruck owner says that to maintain his battery health in the long term, he is looking to operate his Cybertruck only at a charge rate between 20% and 80%. In this instance, the Cybertruck owner states he’s only getting around a 100-mile real-world range.

For this reason, the Cybertruck owner says he no longer wants his truck. However, it doesn’t look like he will get the $140,000 asking price to sell it.

Overall, Tesla overpromised and under-delivered on the Cybertruck, which appears to be the biggest reason the EV maker is struggling to convert Cybertruck reservations into sales.
