Here is the One Tesla Cybertruck Feature Unanimously Disliked by all Cybertruck Owners – “The Phone Toaster”

Several current Tesla Cybertruck owners have gone online to complain about the wireless phone charger in their vehicles. Not only does the charger fail to charge almost any phone, but it also causes overheating and is a potential safety hazard.

The Tesla Cybertruck is one of the most polarizing vehicles in recent history. Some people swear that the Cybertruck is the best vehicle in the world, while others feel it’s the worst truck on earth.

Naturally, the people who believe the Cybertruck is wonderful tend to be owners or people with reservations, whereas people who feel the opposite will not be seen with the truck.

However, amidst this division, one feature of the Cybertruck appears to be equally disliked by fans and detractors alike: the Cybertruck’s wireless phone charger or, better known, the phone toaster.

Like all Tesla vehicles, the Cybertruck offers various charging options, allowing the owner to choose the best method. The classic method involves a charger cable connecting to the center console's Type C port.

Using this method, you can charge almost any phone brand. However, the second option, which is the wireless phone charger, is more convenient and doesn’t require you to carry your charger cable around.

On the Tesla Model S, Model 3, Model X, & Model Y, the wireless charger is situated far upfront on the center console below the center touchscreen. This is an ergonomic and convenient place to store your phone while charging.

Also, since the wireless charger is just below the center screen, it’s already in the line of sight of the touch screen, making it easy to glance at information on your phone while it wirelessly charges.

However, on the Cybertruck, Tesla has chosen to leave an opening on the center console between the driver and the front passenger. This layout means the center console doesn’t reach all the way front to the 18.5-inch touch screen.

As a result, the wireless charger on the Cybertruck is situated further back in the front cabin. Additionally, the Cybertruck wireless phone charger is in a small pocket and forces you to charge your phone almost completely upright, further limiting easy access.

The first obvious problem with this location is that if you wirelessly charge your phone using your Cybertruck, your phone screen will be completely out of sight.

This is not ideal on its own; however, this is far from the biggest issue Cybertruck owners have with the wireless phone charger. Sitting in this awkward position, the Cybertruck phone charger is almost nonfunctional when it comes to charging and only appears to be useful for heating the phone.

Mark Stephens writes in the Tesla Cybertruck Owners group on Facebook, “Has anybody had any luck getting the Cybertruck wireless charging to work with iPhones?  My iPhone 14 and work iPhone 10 won’t charge and only overheat. The fact that the iPhone 10 and iPhone 14 don’t work makes me think the truck is incompatible with iPhones for wireless charging.  This seems ridiculous, considering just how many people own iPhones. I am curious to hear your thoughts and experiences. (Edit). Both phones get extremely hot and say they have stopped charging due to temperature.”

In another Facebook group, Tesla Cybertruck, another frustrated Cybertruck wireless charger user, Bruce Fulin, writes, “Overheating iPhone. I can’t charge my iPhone at all on the charging station. It overheats within a couple of minutes. Does anyone else have this issue?”

Bruce’s question in the Tesla Cybertruck group appears to have received almost unanimous answers. Another Cybertruck owner writes, “I have the iPhone 15 pro max, which seems like a common issue.”

Another Cybertruck owner, Brandon Williamson, writes, “I want to disable my wireless charger. It does nothing but make the phone hot.”

People with different-sized iPhones, including an iPhone 13 and the smaller iPhone 15 pro, and others who do not specify the model of their phone all come in unison to say their Cybertruck wireless phone charger does not work.

At this point, you might think the wireless charging issue is related to an incompatibility with iPhones. However, owners of other phone brands, including one person with a Samsung S24, state that the overheating issue happens with his phone, too.

To avoid overheating, people have tried various charging methods, including removing the case and charging their phones upside down; however, there doesn’t appear to be a solution.

This issue is further exacerbated by the fact that most Cybertruck owners use their phones as their primary vehicle keys.

Overall, it’s not clear how Tesla could fix this issue without a hardware retrofit. In the meantime, we advise Cybertruck owners to default to charging their phones with a cable.

Currently, this is all the information we have; however, we’ll be sure to keep you posted if Tesla rolls out a remedy for the wireless charger issue. Until then, visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.

So, what do you think? Are you surprised to see Tesla ship a Cybertruck with a non-functional wireless phone charger? Also, do you think the overheating issue raises safety concerns? Let us know your thoughts in the comments by clicking the red “Add new comment” button below.
