The Cybertruck is a technological marvel; most people fortunate enough to own the all-electric truck are happy with their purchase decision.
However, one surprising thing Tesla Cybertruck owners report that takes away from their experience of driving the truck is all the hate and insults they receive on the streets.
Last week, we even shared the experience of a Tesla Cybertruck owner who is fed up with all the insults he’s experiencing on the road. The Cybertruck owner says he’s considering wrapping the vehicle if the stainless steel is what bothers people.
When we share stories that shed light on the horrible experience Cybertruck owners are facing on the streets, it’s usually from the perspective of the Cybertruck owner.
Today, however, we present a unique perspective. For the first time, we have an earnest explanation from a person who encountered a Cybertruck owner and shared the reasons for his dislike of the all-electric truck.
Douglas Mac Wake is a member of the “PoSC—Photos of Shoddy Cars” group on Facebook. This group is dedicated to sharing pictures of decrepit, ugly, or worn-out vehicles that members encounter on the streets.
Recently, Douglas encountered a Tesla Cybertruck in a parking lot. As he was taking a picture of the truck to share with the group, Douglas ended up having a conversation with the Cybertruck owner. After the encounter, Douglas shared a picture of the Cybertruck on the PoSC—Photos of Shoddy Cars group on Facebook.
Douglas said this was about his encounter with the Cybertruck Owner…
“The impossible happened. I met a chill Cybertruck owner. He knows about the jokes and memes, has seen the Cyberstuck subreddit, and understands that it's a polarizing truck.
He said people insulted him when driving his Cybertruck and seemed to think that was unfair.
He listened when I discussed the association with Musk, and to his credit, he said he didn't like Musk and only bought this car because he already had a Tesla and enjoyed driving it. He's a really cool guy, and he laughed when I told him where I was posting it. But post it I am, for all to see.”
This was Douglas’s account of his interaction with the Cybertruck owner. As he puts it, “the impossible happened: I met a chill Cybertruck owner.”
Going further into Douglas’s post, it appears that one of the biggest reasons people hate the Cybertruck is the truck’s association with Elon Musk. Not liking Musk apparently makes you a “chill Cybertruck owner.”
Since Elon Musk came into the public consciousness, the Tesla CEO has always been controversial; however, after he bought Twitter back in 2022, Musk has garnered an even more divisive image.
What’s surprising is that Musk’s increasingly divisive views are not just criticized by people hurling insults at Cybertruck drivers but have been expressed by some of the biggest Tesla and Elon Musk fans.
A few hours ago, Galileo Russell from the HyperChage YouTube channel, who is one of the biggest Elon Musk admirers, shared his opinion, imploring Musk to tone down his rhetoric.
Gali writes…
“I have been feeling bummed about all the tension in America recently. 😢🇺🇸 A large chunk of our country hates Elon Musk. A lot of this has been manufactured by the media, but some of his stubbornness is contributing to it. Now, every Tesla employee, fan & shareholder must constantly defend and talk about Elon Musk's actions. it is exhausting. I got into $TSLA to stop climate change and proliferate EVs. I still love the company and am extremely supportive of Elon.”
This is only a part of what Gali said to Elon Musk; the entire point of his post is to explain to Musk that people don’t want driving a Tesla vehicle to be a political statement, and Musk should tone down his rhetoric. Surprisingly, Musk saw Gali’s post and appears to agree with the sentiment. Musk responded, saying, “I hear you.”

Overall, it doesn't appear that Elon Musk will tone down his online antics anytime soon, and as Musk becomes more divisive, it will likely become more uncomfortable to drive a Tesla vehicle, including a Cybertruck.
