Tesla Cybertruck Frame Snaps in Half After Hitting a Pothole – $34,000 & 4 Months to Fix, but Owner Says “This is the Most Amazing Truck Ever”

A Cybertruck breaks its rear subframe after hitting a pothole. The incident cost $34,013 and took close to four months to fix. However, the Cybertruck owner says, “This is still the most amazing truck I've ever had!”

A Cybertruck owner shares that he shattered his truck’s rear subframe after he ran into a pothole. He adds that it took 4 months and $34,000 to fix the aftermath.

The owner originally shared his story on Facebook, which was later reposted on Reddit.

Here is what he wrote…

“I finally got my truck back after nearly four months. It got worked over pretty hard, and many more things needed to be replaced than originally expected.

As far as I know, this is the first rear frame replacement on a Cybertruck. I know WhistlinDiesel broke his, but it looked like it was just the hitch, and he said, "Tesla can't fix it." Well, he's full of it, and here is the breakdown of all the parts they changed.

Since the insurance paid for it, I won't comment on how it was driven; it was just that a very large pothole in our washed-out road caused all the dominoes to fall. This is not a commentary on the truck's durability. You would be astounded at how tough and capable this truck is.

The rear suspension mounts broke and then punched through the frame, requiring the full rear frame replacement. Front and rear rack and pinion steering, suspension all the way around, front and rear bumpers, air suspension systems, and bed components, to name a few.

There are 22 pages of parts and labor breakdowns for your perusal.”

Below his post, the Cybertruck owner included several pictures showing all the parts that broke down after the run-in with the pothole. You can see the rear subframe and suspension components that have snapped in half.

Together with his post, the Cybertruck owner also included a picture of the final bill Tesla provided to the insurance company.

According to the document, the total bill to fix the truck after it ran into a pothole came to an eye-watering $34,013.

Of this total, $21,076 was for replacement parts, $11,140 for labor, totaling 94 hours of work, and $1,796 in taxes.

Just for context, for $34,000, you can buy a brand-new Tesla Model 3 after factoring in the $7,500 tax credit.

Most people would be unhappy if they had to wait four months to get their truck fixed and pay the equivalent of a brand new vehicle after it ran into a pothole; however, this Cybertruck owner says that’s not an issue.

The owner not only writes, “This is not a commentary on the truck's durability. You would be astounded at how tough and capable this truck is.” but he finishes his post by writing, “This still is the most amazing truck I've ever had!

I find that funny that the author of this ad says i can't believe how durable the truck is yet he ran over pothole in a truck and cost $34,000 worth of damage. I ran over a curb at 30 mph and bottom a portion of my car and I didn't have no damage to my car.

I don't know of any Ford, Chevy, or Dodge that broke the frame hitting a pothole. Good luck w that "truck". haha

This guy is obviously lying. The Cybertruck has no frame! It's an exoskeleton design. So either he is lying or it wasn't a pot hole he ran over and was afraid that his insurance would cancel payment on the repairs if they found out what he did to the truck. Given how he wrote it, I lean toward the later.

This guy is clearly delulu. He insists it's the best truck ever because he doesn't want to look like an utter pillock for having wasted so much money.

If people were honest, more would admit interest in the Cybertruck.

However, we have to hate on it because people are either jealous or unreasonably biased against EVs.

Those who call that a truck ,definitely have never had one to actually use for hauling or towing. Usually one does not break, from hitting a pothole😀 or hitches fall off because the tongue weight was heavier than rated.

I dont find any of this surprising. Elon Musk's fan boys will blatently ignore every red-flag in sight while holding their pocket open and smiling.

Its strange, but its certainly not surprising.

Torquenews has been showing up in my Android Google feed. I do wonder, were you this negative on Tesla before Elon bought Twitter? The reason I ask is that I've seen a lot of negative content on Tesla here. This article's headline implies something completely different than the owner's Facebook post did. As a casual observer, it feels like your content may be tainted by a political disposition.

I hit potholes all the time in my Frontier and the frame has never snapped. With that kind of bill I could have bought 2 used frontiers instead of just one.

First off this isn't a truck, but it IS an overpriced pile of shit. The time it takes for repairs is a joke, because this guy isn't the only one who has endured repair times that are unacceptable in the current automotive industry. It should NEVER take four months to repair a nearly new vehicle that is still currently in production. You couldn't pay me to own any of this electric car bullshit. It's nothing but a hassle to own with a huge side order of aggravation. We can't run our air conditioners in the summer in some areas because of overloading the grid, but that same shitty powergrid is suddenly robust enough for us all to be able to convert our vehicles to electric.
Wtf 🤔

I think this owner has his head so far up inside Musk that Elon is risking blowing out his own rear end.

Ridiculous.

To each their own. Personally, I think this vehicle is the ugliest thing I have ever seen

Datawrecker (not verified)    December 6, 2024 - 11:26PM

Parts were replaced with in kind parts. So it's still not "fixed" and not "fixable."

What ai find amazing about this truck is that so many minor things cause this vehicle to be inoperable. And any singular one will do it.

I'm wondering what his insurance policy premiums are? Must be extremely high to pay for a 34000 claim. Lucky it covers potholes.

Grabbin Newscum (not verified)    December 7, 2024 - 1:21AM

I bet this happened in California.
We have the crappiest highways in the Western States.

Mark (not verified)    December 7, 2024 - 1:22AM

Another huge selling point for anything produced by Tesla. Not only are they ugly but they fall apart or blow up or drive out of control. But I'll cost you another mortgage to fix it and the end you have a resale value barely above a can a coca cola. Yeah I'll have one thanks 🤣🤣

Yea the potholes in the Bay area no joke. After xmas you can use them to stow your large tree in for easy pickup though, lol.

"Most amazing truck ever"....my ass. It can't even carry a bicycle or fishing rods, and I read about the damage to a cybertruck that hauled a bale of hay. "EGO RIDE" should be its name. Have yet to even see one in Oregon at all.....we know what "trucks" are supposed to be able to do here, and hitting a pothole is a daily occurrence. Good Lord....my Subaru Forester is far tougher, and my 1988 F250 could simply crush that hideous-looking DeLorean/El Camino wannabe. But hey....it IS far faster, just in case you need to get away from the crowd that gathered in the parking lot to jeer at the fool that emerged from the mall with a box of Cinnabons !

Mark Batelaan (not verified)    December 7, 2024 - 6:42AM

Sorry to read about your little adventure with a pothole. You wouldn't be so enamored with your truck if it were out of warranty. My F250 Superduty would of taken on that pothole without missing a beat. Good luck on your next cracked pavement.

Stephen mosher (not verified)    December 7, 2024 - 6:50AM

Unless this jackwagon has a lot of money he's an idiot this truck is not durable as he claims to be if it costs $34013 and 4 months to fix hitting a simple little pothole you're out of your damn mind you just want people to believe this is the best truck ever and all you hit was a pothole and now it messed up the truck petrol vehicles will cost less than that defects you're an idiot whoever owns this truck Truck is a piece of crap you gotta get a new vehicle you Jack wagon

No wonder my insurance policy goes up every 6month. This electric vehicle BS is not going to last, this is totally unsustainable on so many levels.
