Tesla is Struggling to Find Buyers for the $79,990 Cybertruck, Finishes Entire US Reservation List in 9 Days

I recently got the email to configure, however I reserved the single motor variant which doesn't seem to be an option anytime soon, if ever. So my reservation price of $39,990 went up to $79,990 (more then double!). No wonder no one's buying.

A USD 25,000 car was probably always a better bet for continuing upward in production numbers. Musk admittedly that they shot themselves in the foot, his phrasing I recall, by taking on all the complexity of a very unusual vehicle with less broad market, especially outside America.

How can reservation holders be surprised? The vehicle is junk. Word is out and no one wants one, and you can't resell them for anything close to what you paid.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I remember when it was first unveiled. There was an immediate gasp and then when the faithful realized that this is it, they started clapping. But it certainly wasn't their first response. It's not surprising that the less-than-faithful are doing a MJ moonwalk back from this thing.

It's more a testament to how quick the giga-factory is able to crank them out

Amazing what happens when you lie to customers about cost, range, features. Then you force them into an un-American resale prevention clause. Then you get caught lying about battery degradation and gaming the battery capacity to look really good in the first few months but then create a committee to deal with all the battery complaints. Then you treat your employees badly. Then you fail to allow third party repairs and lock customers into a horrible app and repair experience at the dealer, who is literally many months behind because you only set up a limited number of far away repair shops and keep a choke hold on parts so auto body shops, even when licensed can't do repairs in a timely manner and are 6 months behind just for a consultation. Then you lock customers out of supercharging randomly without notice when there is a fender bender. And then one day people don't want to buy your cars because the cost, hassle, frustration, and anger just can't be justified any longer when there are viable alternatives. Amazing.

If the Cybertruck is struggling to find buyers as the most sold electric pick-up truck, the others must be struggling even more!

The price they put is to filter the waiting list. I expect this truck to go down in price significantly.

I am a day 1 hour 1 reservation holder. The CT is like a reverse mullet- party in the front and almost nothing in the rear (or the insides) . I’m waiting for critical fixes like 1) a rear view mirror that is functional, 2) water sealed tono cover (let’s face it, this is being used as an SUV for 99 percent of buyers), 3) a missing 20k value to bring their flagship cyberbeast on par with the RS1 which has nearly the same
Specs but is a far better experience.

I bet the sales staff are saying "they're selling like hotcakes 🥞 ". "You'll lose your spot in line". "You should order two while you can".
They can read the gullible customers. Tesla owner and company is selling fraud in self driving cars and robotics. I wouldn't identify as a "cybertruck anything publicly. Losing 25% resale value in 90 days? Having to carry Gap insurance for replacement coverage?

With Elon seemingly aligned with the anti renewable energy and anti EV team, it’s backing people away from his electric car company.

I cancelled my reservation after seeing a cybertruck at a Tesla store in San Jose, CA and reading reviews. I was completely turned off by the vehicle. If I ever buy a truck, it will be a Rivian.

I reserved a cyber truck based on the 49.999 advertisement. When that number comes around I'll be ready

As soon as my $49,900 cybertruck turned into a $79,900 cybertruck I cancelled my order. I think that's what a lot of people did. Raising the original promised price by $30K?!?! That's a 60% increase. I don't got that kind of money.

I received my email a couple of days ago as well and plan to wait for Tesla to work out the kinks!

I reserved a all wheel drive cybertruck in June of 2023. I was #600,000. I thought it would be years before I would configure my cybertruck. I received an email last night inviting me to configure and place my order with a $250 deposit. Are they just clearing out uninterested people on the reservation list?

People are waiting for the $7500 incentive to apply to the vehicle. After that you will see more actual orders.

Hmmmm... Well, why not just call a Tesla dealer and ask them?

Until then, all you have is a couple random anonymous comments that have zero basis of fact. If I tell you that a pink giraffe came to my door to deliver my $25K Tesla Model 2, would you believe me?

I pre ordered my cybertruck in April of 2020 and have received both invites for foundation and the regular production truck. I was not to see delivery until 2025(when I would have been ready for it as planned) but the invites came early. Beside the fact that when I pre-ordered I was under the assumption that my truck as configured(with autonomous driving) that I would be paying somewhere around $60k. The foundation series was over $100k so no way there, and the regular production will cost almost $90 with autonomous driving. I love Elon Musk and everything that he does but that pricing is nowhere near where it started. So I say pass on the truck and wait till the price becomes reasonable for normal hard working Americans to afford.

I made my Initial reservation in October 2020. The in June of 2024 I got my invitation to order. I decided not to spend the extra 20k on the FS series.
Two days ago I got the invitation order the regular Cybertruck. Unfortunately I'm going to have to wait a little. Cash flow!
I still want it though.

Tesla is definitely struggling to sell Cybertruck. I received an email from Tesla about 3 months ago to configure Foundation Series...I didn't. Last week I received another email to configure $79,990....I didn't, and I won't. I think a lot of would-be Tesla buyers are pissed off with Elon Musk for getting so deep into politics, and for that reason they're not buying any of Elon Musk's products.

I had a reservation for a dual motor Founders edition and a cyberbeast. I canceled both reservations a month ago after seeing the horrible build quality in person. They do have a huge problem on their hand.

Makes sense since the original preorders in 2019 were for a $40k truck then it became a $100k truck. That's a large difference in customer type.

It’s because Elon went MAGA and went nuts. I was one of the earliest to put myself on the reservation list and could not wait for my turn to configure mine. But as I waited Elon got more and more crazy (with his adolescent humor, etc), he started supporting Trump, and he now is literally spreading lies and misinformation on that cesspool of his that used to be called Twitter. It doesn’t take a genius to see that the old environmentally conscious, college educated customer base for Tesla would be offended and horrified by this, and so now he reaps what he has sown.

I would have bought mine, if they didn't raise the price by 50%.

I reserved within the first hour in 2019. My 4wd with FSD was estimated at $55k. I'm pretty sure most people weren't ready for the sticker shock. Inflation has been bad since 2019, but double the original price is ridiculous. Plus it's not practical and other manufacturers are releasing competitive nicer looking, practical trucks and SUVs.

I canceled my Cybertruck order when they sent me the invite a couple of weeks ago. We also passed on getting a Y six months ago. I don’t think we are the only ones that have started distancing themselves from Tesla for obvious reasons. I feel sorry for the employees. I’m wondering if there will be anyone to service our X in a few years. Maybe the local fire department will want to practice on it.

I took signed up around june 2024 and just received the invite. I won't buy it. Love the tech but I've seen the truck a few times now and it's not aging well at all. This might become the first failed tesla vehicle.

A friend changed his mind to buy one because of the look appeal of the Cybertruck. I'm sure other reasons for not buying include wait too long, cost, and the mental state of Elon Musk to Tesla and to Trump.
