“We are thinking about it. The success of the extra-long version of the S-Class has got us wondering about whether there could be a business case for that in the future,” said Dr. Stefan Knirsch, Audi's new technical boss to Auto Express.
Currently, Audi only offers the A8 in a standard or long-wheelbase. Last month, Audi revealed a one-off A8L extended that featured six-doors and seating for up to six people.
Next-generation A8 to feature a more advanced automated driving system
Knirsch also told Auto Express the next-generation A8 would feature a piloted system that follows the standards of SAE Level 3 of automation - a driver can remove their hands from the wheel for a longer period of time and at higher speeds than current systems.
“We are working on the new A8 to introduce this new level of piloted systems,” said Knirsch.
It should be noted that level 3 systems still require the driver to intervene in case of trouble.
