But that was the case as Audi introduced everyone to the 2017 A4 Allroad.
Based on the new A4 Avant, the Allroad has about 1.3-inches more of ground clearance thanks to modifications to the suspension and larger wheels. Outside, the Allroad gets flared out fenders, a roof rack, unique bumpers, and skid plates.
Power will come from a variety of gasoline and diesel engines ranging in power from 150 to 272 horsepower. A six-speed manual, seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and eight-speed automatic. Audi's quattro all-wheel drive is standard. It should be noted this only for European markets. Audi will announce what powertrain the Allroad will get in North America at a later date.
Audi is positioning the A4 Allroad as an alternative to crossovers with interior cargo space of 17.4 cubic feet with the rear seats up, and 53.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.
The 2017 A4 Allroad goes on sale this summer in Europe. Expect Audi to announce a date for the A4 Allroad's arrival to North America sometime later this year.
