Ram is adding a new option for its 2021 Ram 1500 that will make it easier to add a snow plow to your ride. Ram has been growing its commercial segment and this snow plow prep package will help people who use their trucks for plowing make sure that it is hooked up correctly and won’t hurt the vehicle. The snow plow prep package is being shown at the Work Truck Show underway in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The 2021 Ram 1500 Snow Plow Prep Package
The new option will include a 220-amp alternator, the wiring for a snow plow and a rear power sliding window with a defroster. The package also adds a truck-side plow wiring harness. The active air dam is removed when this option is selected to make way for plow mounts. The package will cost $195 and be available on the 2021 Ram 1500 Tradesman, Big Horn and Laramie 4x4 models. The packages will only be available on those models that are equipped with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, 5.7-liter HEMI eTorque V-8 or the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engines.
“As part of Ram’s commitment to continuous improvement within the segment, we now offer a Snow Plow Prep package for Ram 1500 customers,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand. “Ram has taken a larger presence in the commercial vehicle market, and this offering is the latest expansion of our hard-working trucks.”
Plows and Mounts for 2021 Ram 1500 Sold Separately
It is important to note that this does not include the snow plow or the mounts. It merely readies the truck for the addition of the equipment. According to Ram, the plow, mounts and controller are all sold separately and are available through several manufacturers. The 2021 Ram 1500 snow plow prep option will be available later this year.
Ram has been making significant inroads in the commercial market by increasing the performance and capability of its trucks. The Ram 1500 is America’s most powerful half-ton diesel pickup with 480 lb.-ft. of torque and most capable light-duty diesel, with towing capability up to 12,560 pounds. While Ram is making the snow plow prep package available for its 2021 Ram 1500 models, it does not mention if a similar package will be made available for its larger 2500 and 3500 vehicles. The package was announced at the National Truck Equipment Association’s Show, best known as the Work Truck Show.
