I Finally Completed My 2024 Ram 2500 Laramie Night Edition’s Exterior Upgrades, New Wheels, Lights, Flares, Mudflaps, and a Tougher, More Aggressive Look

From Michigan's weather to mudflap mastery, see how one truck enthusiast transformed his 2024 Ram 2500 and discover the hidden details that could change how you upgrade your ride.

This evening, I was scrolling through the “Ram 2500 4x4” group on Facebook and came across a post by JD. JD finally wrapped up the exterior upgrades on his 2024 Ram 2500 Laramie Night Edition after the weather in MI delayed the work. So far, he’s added BFG KO3 285/65R20 tires, a front light bar, a rear backup light kit, color-matched factory fender flares, a CJC Off Road fog light kit, and Rekgen mudflaps. The truck’s looking great with a tougher, more aggressive look, but he still has a few emblem mods and sill plate updates to finish before deciding if it needs to be leveled.

JD says, “I was finally able to complete the exterior upgrades that the weather in Michigan had been delaying. For reference, the truck is a 2024 Ram 2500 Laramie Night Edition. So far, I’ve added a new set of BFG KO3 285/65R20 tires, a front light bar, and a rear backup light kit. Over the past week, I installed a set of color-matched factory fender flares. I snipped the tabs and used VHB tape, and they fit very well, except at the very end where they meet the rear spat. I also swapped the spats for the correct ones to match the factory flares. Additionally, I installed a CJC Off Road fog light kit. Overall, I’m pleased with the kit, though I may space the light fixture off the plastic trim slightly to allow more downward adjustment, as it might be an issue if I decide to level the truck in the future. The kit was relatively easy to install and wasn’t as difficult as I had expected after reading about it online. Lastly, I added a set of Rekgen mudflaps, and I’m happy with how they fit and the coverage they provide. They should help protect the truck from stone chips and flying debris. I still have some emblem mods and sill plate updates left to do, and then I’ll decide if I want to level the truck or adjust it further.”

Ram 2500 4x4

Upgrading a truck like the Ram 2500 Laramie takes careful planning and patience, especially when dealing with unpredictable weather conditions. JD’s approach, from selecting the right tires to fine-tuning the fog light fitment, showcases a thoughtful modification process that many truck enthusiasts can appreciate.

For those considering a 2024 Ram 2500 purchase, one major consideration is whether to opt for an extended warranty. Given how much people invest in aftermarket upgrades, it’s essential to weigh the pros and cons of additional protection.

Ram trucks have long been known for their durability, and with the 2025 Ram 1500 receiving industry recognition, it’s clear that Ram is continually refining its lineup. JD’s Night Edition build aligns with Ram’s legacy of rugged performance, much like the workhorse reputation of the 2015 Ram 2500 Tradesman 6.7L Cummins, which set a benchmark for heavy-duty trucks.

One of the key aspects of JD’s build is making the truck not only look aggressive but also functionally superior. His choice of BFG KO3 285/65R20 tires ensures that the truck performs well on and off the road. These tires are known for their balance between durability and traction, making them a solid upgrade for any Ram owner.

Another important consideration when modifying a heavy-duty truck is towing capability. JD hasn’t yet leveled his truck, but if he does, it’s worth keeping in mind that changes in ride height can impact towing performance. Many Ram owners have expressed concerns, such as a 2017 Ram 1500 owner worried about towing, and it’s always a good idea to test how modifications affect stability when hauling loads.

The Takeaway

If there’s one lesson to learn from JD’s experience, it’s that patience and attention to detail pay off when upgrading a truck. Whether it’s ensuring a perfect fit for fender flares or adjusting fog lights for potential future changes, taking the time to get things right leads to a better end result. Additionally, keeping an eye on how modifications impact performance and reliability can save headaches down the road.
