I thought that I would start this thread to offer some ways to improve traffic while we are working with the various search engines. Things like Facebook and twitter are the most obvious means of bringing attention to your articles but you can generate more traffic within your articles.
One thing that Ive noticed with my traffic here compared to other sites, is that I average around 3 pageviews per visit while at other sites I often average closer to 8-10 PVs per visit. The reason for that is that I always include a couple links to older, related stories. This is something simple that you can do to not only increase your own traffic, but traffic around the site as well.
For example, my Lamborghini article this morning:
http://www.torquenews.com/106/2012-lamborghini-aventador-already-selling...
At the end, I added "Other Lamborghini News" and added links to the only two Lambo articles that we have on the site so far...one by me and one by Bryan.
Now that we have the brand categories set up, it is pretty easy to find related stories to link. For any given brand, if you go to your browsers address bar and the website address followed by the brand in question. An example:
http://www.torquenews.com/lamborghini
If you replace lamborghini with any other brand in our system, it will give you a list of all of the topics in that category. Needless to say, this also brings out the importance of properly categorizing your articles.

Patrick - that's a great idea. I hope it's something we can all get behind. I'll do my best to do that because it benefits all of us in the long run to have traffic on the site.

I thought auto news articles and Google had some dos and don'ts limits on internal links per Armen. I agree with the advice, but Armen needs to make that clear as well, as we had a discussion about link limits when I first started here.
Still, we should be consistent in where we place them and how we place them for site continuity, for lack of a better term.
