While the records for the quickest Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat – both with the manual transmission and the automatic – have changed hands a few times over the past year few months, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat quarter mile record has stood for nearly a year. Linda T’s 9.71 last November was the quickest quarter mile time by the new supercharged sedan and while there are lots of big-power Hellcat Chargers running around – none of them had beaten Linda’s 9.71 @ 140.39mph record.
That all changed this past weekend, when a gentleman named Steve blasted down the quarter mile in his Hellcat Charger in just 9.58 seconds, setting the new record for the quickest Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat in the world.
The New Quickest Hellcat Sedan
While I am still working on getting the full details, here is what we know now about the world’s quickest Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.
This beautiful Plum Crazy supercharged sedan has a relatively short mod list, including upper and lower pulleys, larger injectors, Kenne Bell Boost-A-Pump, a BWoody cold air intake, drag radials and a good tune from Barth Tuning – with the setup running on E85 rather than gasoline. It should be noted that unlike the other Hellcat record cars that we have talked about over the past few months which were tuned by High Horse Performance, the new Hellcat Charger record holder was tuned by Tim Barth of Barth Tuning.
The video below shows the Plum Crazy Hellcat Charger doing a burnout and making the record pass, but you will surely notice that there is no time on the big board. Fortunately, I know several people who were at the track when this run was made and they have seen the time slip – and sent me a picture of the time slip – proving the record run in black and white.
After a 60 foot time of 1.415 and an 8th mile time of 6.147 (at 114.48mph), this monster Hellcat Charger blasted through the top end beams in just 9.581 seconds, with a speed of 142.94 miles per hour.
That run makes this Barth-tuned Hellcat Charger the quickest of its type in the world, but it also puts this supercharged sedan is just over a tenth of a second behind the quickest Hellcat Challenger in the world. Right now, the record for the quickest automatic Hellcat Challenger is 9.46 at 145.5 miles per hour, so Steve and his Plum Crazy Charger have a little work to do – but with cooler temperatures setting in around the country, I am guessing that this won’t be the last we hear of this Charger or the Hellcat Charger quarter mile record this fall.
In the meantime, check out the video below showing Steve’s Hellcat Charger setting the new quarter mile record for the factory-supercharged sedan and make sure that you have you speakers cranked up to hear this beast roar!
Special thanks to Tim Barth of Barth Tuning for the information on the run!
