Cars We Miss - Honda Accord V6 Coupe

The Honda Accord is one of America's top-selling vehicles. We miss the coupe. Here's why.

The Honda Accord is one of America's top-selling automobiles and has been in five decades.

When it was first introduced in 1976, the Accord was a hatchback. Squint at the gen-1 Accord and you will see the general shape of many popular compact affordable vehicles still on sale today. The Corolla Hatchback comes to mind. We see a bit of Nissan Leaf there. The Chevy Bolt is not far off the overall outline.

However, the Accord was to be the top-selling Honda car, so it needed to evolve and take the shape of the vehicle most buyers wanted. That meant growing into a midsized sedan.

Along the way to earning so many sales, the Accord was also shaped as a coupe. As you can see from the images, the Accord can be a great-looking car when it tries to be.

The Accord was always a fun vehicle. Although its four-cylinder mainstay engines were not intended to be "fast," they were always responsive and peppy. A coupe deserved a bit more power though. In the Accord's seventh generation, the Accord Coupe could be had with a 240 hp V6 engine and a six-speed manual transmission.

The pinnacle of the Accord Coupe was the 2013 HFP Special Edition V6 Coupe. Able to run from 0-60 MPH in the mid-five-second range (verified by independent testing). the Accord Coupe was not just quick but arguably fast for its time and vehicle class. The Accord finally had the go to match its show.

The Accord coupe's sales are either good or bad depending upon how you look at it. We reached out to Honda for some insight and our contact Jessica Pawl was kind enough to do some digging. She told us that the modern Accord coupe sold at its peak in the neighborhood of 9% of total Accord sales in 2013. However, that percentage dropped steadily to under 6% in 2016. As a percentage of the Accord's sales, the coupe was just a small contributor. But if one steps back and multiplies the percentage sold by the total, it is an impressive number. 5% of about 300K cars per year is 15,000 cars! There are four Honda/Acura car models not maintaining that sales pace on sale right now. Three if you exclude the NSX.

We miss the Accord coupe. Today's sedan design does bring in elements of a coupe-like body, and Honda should be credited for doing whatever it takes to keep the Accord on the car sales podium.

Do you miss the Accord Coupe? If so, tell us why in the comments below.

I, too, lucked out with a 2011 black on black (limited production 200 for Canadian market) Accord coupe HFP, V6, 6 speed manual with 9000 miles (15,500 ks) in Sept, 2019. Had no idea what I purchased till I researched the HFP package. Car currently has 12,000 miles, never winter driven. Drove 10 hours to pickup the car in Alberta; worth the trip home driving through the mountains.

Absolutely loved this car. When I got it I had to take it on a road trip. I didn't care where I was going so I drove across 3 states. Shockingly other accord drivers recognized my car coming from the opposite direction and would honk at me! It was an exclusive club. To this day I look for a great used 2013 coupe and I drive a 2019 car. I love this car! Please bring it back.

I wanted to buy a new one and found out they discontinued it. So disappointed. I just bought a 2013 a few months ago and I LOVE it! Great car, and I think an underrated sports car.

I have a 2014 Accord Coupe EXL V6MT and I absolutely LOVE it! I drove a 2004 Acura RSX Type S before that, and although the RSX was great, the Accord blows it away. Granted, the Accord has a couple extra cylinders, but it's also bigger and heavier, but you wouldn't know it. It jumps off the line really quick and I can spin the tires in 3 gears. It's FWD, so not a true sports car in my mind, but the FWD makes it capable for winter driving. Stored it away for the first 5 winters, so it's still in great shape and only has 55k miles on it. Had an issue with the infotainment system for a long time, but that seems to have gone away now. So happy I was able to get my hands on this car before Honda stopped making them. Very sad to see it discontinued. Honda needs to bring back a new sports coupe. Would love to see the S2000, or the Accord Coupe, brought back to life again!

Sadly just got t-boned and had my 09' EX totaled out with only 120,000 miles on it which was heartbreaking since I absolutely loved my car and it was in fantastic condition. They hold their value and it's honestly hard to find them out here in Colorado; luckily my mom is selling me her 15' but I dread the day I go to buy a car and my favorite model isn't there anymore. Please bring back the Accord coupe Honda!!!

I'm in the market now to get myself a 2017 coupe. $17,000 is for her. Last year into production and I'm hunting for her. For a discontinued car, it holds her pricing well. What got me to her is while on the highway, I was behind another vehicle with a honda badge. Usually I would see a C type of shape for them latest accord tail lights but this one is just box and I'm like, what a trick way to enhance the looks. Car took off so fast I couldn't figured it out but now I know, it was an accord coupe.

Had experience with two 3.5s in accord sedans..watched the leftover 17 disappear from my dealer..never thought of a coupe..they had one left..December 2020 I’ve racked up a whopping 7800 miles on my garage kept leased 3.5 silver exl coupe..probably keep it another 7 years or so...My Do I enjoy this car.

PS..I had no room but about a year ago found an off lease red 16 mt... four
Thousand Miles..as NEW..Could have it as Honda Certified Used Car for 24K..
Sure wish I could have...of course it was GONE in several days..

When I first saw the 2013 Honda Accord Coupe, I knew I wanted that vehicle. The change in the body style was just enough to make it sleeker and simply beautiful. I waited a year and purchased a V6 MT Ex-L from a Honda employee with 9500 miles at a great price. I LOVE this car. Maintenance on it has been minimal. At 73K I still haven’t had to replace the brakes (they’ve been checked recently) and I only replaced the tires at about 63k. The only thing I didn’t like is that I could not get my iPhone to do the texting through the Audio system. I have looked for a 2017 with lower mileage, but hard to find a V6 with leather and MT. I hope they bring it back, even if just for one year. Best car i’ve Ever owned.

I own a 2012 Coupe (it had only 26K miles on it when I drove it off the lot). Currently there is 150k miles. I loved every minute of driving this car and would get so many compliments on what how pretty my car looked. Even today, it still doesn't look its age. Sadly, it's time to retire the car due to transmission problems.

Honda needs a v6 coupe again. Acura stopped making a 2 door coupe with the cl as the last one with great handling and dependability, can’t find anything else in an affordable price range with a V6 and styling. I am tired of driving a big car and want to get back into a coupe with some guts. Doesn’t have to be 350hp, just needs the sound and get up of the 3.2 liter engines with maybe a couple more tranny gears...please? I don’t want a camaro or mustang due to lack of dependability and comfort.

I have a Honda Accord V6 coupe and I love it. This car is super sporty fun to drive with beautiful lines. The color makes all the difference. I have a red one and even while sitting still it looks like it is about to take off !!!

I just love my 2016 V6 Coupe. The power, handling, and performance are amazing. It is also very nice to look at.

I have one the last 2017 V6 Touring Coupe sold new. It’s a great driving car and very comfortable. It flies and never gets me nervous at high speeds or in the handling. Love everything about it!

Love the Accord coupe.I have never owned a 4 door car and I'm 60.If Honda offered an Accord coupe I buy it today.Presently driving 2014 EXL and looking for low mileage 2017.Its a shame no one offers coupes anymore.

I had a white 2008 Coupe, 4 cylinder and was sorry to hear they were no longer making them. I managed to find a pre-owned, low mileage, white 2016 V6 a couple of years ago. Love it. No issues with it at all aside from a deep interior cleaning. It's great looking, peppy and I often get compliments. I don't need to haul anyone around in the back, and the front seats are roomier than a 325 I had a while back which makes my tall husband happy. I won't be replacing the Coupe with a Honda sedan so I'll be going to a different car entirely when I need to. Great car. Sorry they let it go.

I have always driven coupes. They are ever disappearing from the car market. My first accord coupe was a 2010, I now own a 16 coupe. It breaks my heart knowing what my next coupe will have to be.

MarkAZ (not verified)    May 16, 2021 - 8:55AM

I’ve owned a 2005 Accord V6 coupe and now a 2014 V6 coupe. I like them because they are a lot of car for a great price- I bought both when they were a few years old. I plan on getting one of the final production years that were made soon, but am sad that the next may be my last!

I have just recently purchased a used 2001. I love it just want to fix her up. Even at her age she is still good!

I bought and have used my 1999 Coupe in Europe and my love of it's qualities is unbroken. Admiring the dark emerald lines people here refuse to believe it's a twenty year old design and the manager of Honda Service Station is pestering me to sell it. A classic I want to keep in the family.

Carroll Stone (not verified)    June 24, 2021 - 8:23PM

Miss it? I have driving a 2004 Accord V6 EX-L for 14 years! Love it! I have never kept a car this long, and it is my daily driver. I certainly never even dreamed that the coupe, and the V6 would just disappear as an option. I have been looking for a 2015 - 2017 V6 Accord EX-L coupe for 6 months.

I love my 2016 Coupe I4 Manual. Every time the dealer calls and tries to woo me with a trade in I reply "What do you have that's a stick with 2 doors that's not a Type-R" oh, nothing? Sorry not interested....

Pat Dunbar (not verified)    July 10, 2021 - 3:51PM

The Accord coupe was sporty at a reasonable price. I currently have a 2008 Accord sedan because coupes were scarce. I'd trade my sedan for a coupe in a heartbeat.

I own a 2013 6mt with 235,000 miles. It has been the best car I've ever owned. I upgraded the brakes but otherwise totally stock. It drives like new and I occasionally like to find a twisty road to let the vtec stretch its legs. Great car!

I was lucky to locally find a used 2016 4 cyl. to trade my bought new, but high mileage, 2015 4 cyl 6 spd., Both black only available, and l hate black, but both have gotten 40 mpg. up the PA.TP. l had had two 5 spd. Civic coupes and have only and will only drive manual coupes. So with 2017 Accord coupe and now Civic coupe gone, Honda has nothing to sell. I won't get lucky and find a 4 6spd. 2017 low mileage used ! I won't drive a Checker with 8 doors down the side, either.

I love my 2013 V6 with 45k miles. I love the speed and the looks i get when I pull up! I keep trying to find a replacement that gives me the same feeling but just can't! Too bad they stopped production or glad because I have such a great, rare car!

Absolutely love the Honda Accord Coupe! Bought a brand new one in 2009 and another in 2013. Worst day ever when I traded my 2013 EX L in on a Marano to have more room for my grandkids. I have recently purchased a 2013 EX L in mint condition! So happy with this car! Wish Honda would bring the coupe back!! My granddaughter loves this car too!!!
