11 New Subaru Vehicles Are In The Pipeline In The Next Four Years

What new Subaru vehicles can customers look forward to in the next four years? Here are the eleven new models worth waiting for.

Who says Subaru doesn't have any new models coming? Eleven new Subaru vehicles are scheduled to launch in the next four years. Two vehicles will be all-new nameplates that are not in the lineup now. The others are redesigns or refreshes. 

Here are the eleven new Subaru models coming by 2027 worth waiting for.

Coming in 2024 

1. 2025 Forester redesign.

I have covered the remodeled 2025 Subaru Forester compact SUV in detail. The sixth-generation Forester is the one new model that Subaru has officially announced. The 2025 Subaru Forester compact SUV gets a redesign from the ground up.

Here are the new Forester upgrade highlights:

  • Sleek, fresh, contemporary interior and exterior design
  • Advanced EyeSight Driver Assist Technology standard on all trims
  • Improved dynamic performance and ride quality from a 10% stiffer chassis
  • Available 11.6-inch Subaru Starlink Multimedia system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto
  • The debut of kick sensor-activated Hands-Free Power Rear Gate 

2. Ascent redesign second half of 2024

According to a new report from Automotive News (by subscription), the Subaru Ascent is expected to be redesigned in the second half of 2024. As I have said in previous stories on the 3-Row SUV, the Ascent needs something. Will Subaru bring a new Wilderness Edition or a new Hybrid trim level? Stay tuned.

2025 Model Year

3. An all-new 3-Row Electric Crossover

I covered this new model in August. Subaru and Toyota are collaborating again on an all-new vehicle. An Automotive News report says this one will be a new electric 3-Row SUV made in Toyota's U.S. plant in Kentucky.

AN says Toyota will build the new three-row electric crossover in 2025 in Kentucky for Subaru shortly after it starts making its version, which is tentatively called the bZ5X, said people with knowledge of the plans.

The new EV will not be an electric version of the Subaru Ascent 3-Row SUV now being sold to its U.S. customers. It's an all-new model. The report says the name and other details of Subaru's 3-Row electric SUV have yet to be announced, though the Japanese automaker said in May that it planned four battery-powered SUVs in its lineup by 2026.

4. 2025 Outback redesign

Subaru of America will announce the remodeled 2025 Subaru Outback next, which could be coming soon. The next-generation 2025 Outback will get significant upgrades from the 2024 model year. Here is what I know so far.

I have reported earlier that the all-new Outback for the 2025 model year will come with new exterior styling, interior, infotainment, and upgraded safety features. 

Could the new Outback get hybrid power?

Planet Subaru says, "To meet ever-more-demanding emissions regulations, however, we wouldn't be surprised to see Subaru lean on its engineering partner Toyota to offer a hybrid engine option (in the next-generation 2025 Outback) similar to the Crosstrek Hybrid powertrain."

This is speculation as Subaru is always tight-lipped about future product plans, and the automaker has made no announcements about the 2025 Outback. 

5. 2025 Legacy redesign

Like the Outback, the 2025 Legacy midsize sedan will be completely redesigned. Whatever Subaru does to the Outback, the Legacy, which rides on the same platform as the Outback, will get identical changes.  

2026 Model Year

6. Subaru Solterra freshen or reengineering.

Changes are coming to the Subaru Solterra EV. Sales have been good, but the Solterra needs more than freshening up. Automotive News reports that Solterra could get a reengineering to address its problems. 

As I have reported, the Solterra needs more range, so Subaru may give the EV a complete overhaul sooner than expected. A Subaru SUV typically gets a remodel after five years, but the Solterra needs to be competitive in its range. The Solterra must be more efficient to compete with other automakers' new EVs.  

7. Subaru Crosstrek freshen

The 2024 Crosstrek received a complete remodel and will be due for some changes in the third year of its new-generation life cycle. Don't look for Subaru to give the 2026 Crosstrek significant changes. It could receive some minor exterior restyling on the front and rear.  

8. Subaru Impreza freshen

The 2024 Impreza received a complete remodel and will be due for some changes in the third year of its life cycle. Like the Crosstrek, the Impreza rides on the same platform, and the 2026 Impreza could get some minor exterior restyling on the front and rear. But don't look for significant design changes. 

9. Subaru WRX freshen

The WRX received a remodel in 2022, and the 2026 Subaru WRX in year four will be due for a freshening up. Don't look for significant changes. It will likely get minor exterior restyling on the front and rear. 

I have covered this in detail in previous reports. The WRX sedan body style is dated and is not a current body style performance fans want. Fans want a hot WRX hatch. Whether Subaru will bring back the 5-door hatch is anyone's guess. Subaru is tight-lipped about future model changes. 

10. Subaru BRZ freshen

The BRZ received a remodel in 2022, and the 2026 Subaru BRZ, also in year four of its life cycle, will be due for a freshening up. The sport coupe could get minor changes to the exterior styling and new interior tech features. 

2027 Model Year

11. The all-new Subaru WRX STI-based EV

Bringing back the STI will be the most significant new model launch for Subaru and Subaru of America. Subaru will offer the STI in an all-new electric platform. I have reported previously that Subaru could use a new STe (Subaru Tecnica electric) badge as the high-performance model makes a comeback as an all-electric model.

Sorry Subaru - no EV STI for me. I have had two STIs and expected to buy a 2024 and it got cancelled. No interest in EVs, hybrid maybe, but EV keep it. I have been a loyal Subaru owner since 1979, even owned an SVX, and visited the IN factory. Sadly, perhaps my days as a Subbie fan may be waining.
