Subaru’s WRX STI Global Rallycross Supercars are making progress as Chris Atkinson gets his second podium finish in Seattle. It was all Tanner Foust at round 10 of the double-header at Red Bull Global Rallycross at Evergreen Speedway. He won every heat, the semi-final and the Final beating teammate Scott Speed in the Andretti VW Beetle.
Day One
In spite of Foust’s dominance, it was a good Day One of the double-header for Subaru Rally Team USA. It was Chris Atkinson who had the upper hand most of the day over teammate Patrik Sandell. Atkinson qualified with the fastest time of the day and his #55 Subaru WRX STI was running strong.
Atkinson took P1 in Heat 3A and also had a first place in the Semi-final 2. Sandell finished P3 in Heat 3B and P4 in the Semi-final putting him further back in the pack for the start of the Final.
The Final
In the Final, Chris Atkinson was on the front row with Scott Speed and Tanner Foust in their Andretti Volkswagen Beetles. Patrick Sandell was in the third row where it’s hard to get to the front unless something big happens in the first corner.
True to form, the VW Beetles shot off the starting line with an undeniable advantage they’ve had all season. Atkinson’s #55 Subaru WRX STI started fast and had to battle with Oliver Ericsson’s Honda Civic for third place in the first turn. After Atkinson slid underneath the move from Eriksson, it was Atkinson in third place chasing the VW Beetles.
Atkinson held on in the Final and finished third getting his second podium in the #55 Subaru WRX STI Supercar of the 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross season. Round 11 of the double-header takes place tomorrow at Evergreen Speedway in Seattle. Can Subaru get another podium or maybe their first win? Stay tuned.
