Subaru Corporation recently announced they will build a dedicated all-electric model plant by 2027 and begin manufacturing new EV models as they ramp up battery-electric production in the next five years. What will be Subaru’s next EV after the 2023 Solterra Compact SUV?
Subaru says they will design their models and won’t rely on Toyota to collaborate on its next all-wheel-drive EVs. Subaru will build a dedicated EV factory on the site of its Oizumi plant, which now makes engines and transmissions. We recently showed a Solterra EV compact pickup, and now our friend Mike Nichoson designed a new 2024 Subaru Outback that Subaru of America needs to offer customers.
Subaru will manufacture the new all-electric all-wheel-drive vehicles for U.S. customers and global markets. Subaru CEO Tomomi Nakamura said recently they are still contemplating what kind of segment or models the upcoming EVs will be and did not offer a production capacity figure for the new EV production facility. He said they would start small with room to expand over time, a report from Automotive News said.
We think the 2024 Subaru Outback EV pictured here would be a good place for Subaru Corporation to start. The Outback is now Subaru of America’s top-selling model in the all-wheel-drive lineup. The Outback leads Forester and Crosstrek in sales in the first five months of 2022.
What can U.S. customers expect in the next five years?
Subaru says by 2025; it will begin introducing its next-generation hybrid models based on gasoline-electric powertrains provided by Toyota, similar to the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid. Customers can expect Forester, Outback, and Ascent hybrid SUVs by 2025.
Subaru could label the new hybrids e-Boxers, like they do in Japan, Australia, and Europe. Subaru said it would invest $2.05 billion in the new hybrid and electric vehicle initiatives over the next five years.
In addition to the 2023 Subaru Solterra EV compact SUV, Customers in the U.S. will have more new all-wheel-drive all-electric models coming by 2027. Would you buy a 2024 Subaru Outback EV? Let Subaru of America know what you’d like to see in the comments below.

My 2011 Outback is starting to show its age but I'm going to hold out as long as I can so I can replace it with a hybrid Outback. I think it's a bit premature in the development of electric vehicles to expect a full electric drivetrain with sufficient range but a plug-in hybrid would be a plus.

I would LOVE to see a hybrid Outback, rather than a full EV one. We do alot of cross country driving and I can get close to 600 miles on one tank of gas. The range of the EV's is just not enough for me. Plus, availability of charging stations in remote areas is a downer. And I just don't want to spend hours standing around waiting for it to charge.
GO HYBRID Outback !! (PS - Love my Subaru!)

I also would love to see a hybrid rather than full EV Outback. I regularly drive long distances and EV just won't get me there. Love my Outback but the gas milage is meh.

I would buy a Subaru Outback hybrid TODAY if it was available. I'd strongly prefer a hybrid to a full EV. I'm driving a hybrid Honda Accord today and if I could trade it in for an Outback hybrid I'd do it in a heartbeat. I want a new car ... my decision is whether or not I can hold out until 2025 and hope for an Outback hybrid. .

I was a multiple Subaru owner until last year when I trade in my Crosstrek for a full EV. So my mobility on rough roads is more limited while I await a smallish EV crossover with decent ground clearance. Maybe Rivian will be the Subaru of EVs. I reserved an R@, but an R3 would be a better replacement for my Crosstrek.
I want full EV because home charging electricity is very cheap where I live, and hybrid electric range will not cover the kind of local trips I do. Most of these trips are round trip of up to 150 miles and I want to do them all on electricity. And I do occasional longer trips, so the Solterra really doesn't cut it.
