Subaru announced today they will begin shipping the new 2017 Impreza sedan and 5-Door hatchbacks in Japan. Now in its fifth generation, Impreza gets impressive updates. There are seven new firsts for the Impreza compact. It could be the most important new vehicle launch for Subaru since the Crosstrek was released in 2012.
There have already been 8,883 pre-orders for the new Impreza compact in Japan and they will begin delivery of these new models later this month on October 25, 2016. Subaru says half of these orders have come from consumers who have never purchased a Subaru vehicle before. It’s a strategic model for Subaru, as it’s the first new model to get sweeping upgrades.
7 new firsts for Impreza
The new Impreza will be the safest vehicle Subaru has ever produced. The 2017 models will be the first to get a pedestrian airbag and seven occupant protection airbags as standard equipment. It’s also the first Subaru vehicle to get the new-generation version 3 EyeSight driver assist safety system as standard on all models.
This new compact will also be the first to get Subaru’s new Global Platform that will underpin all new-generation Subarus in the future. It will improve both safety and driving performance. It’s also getting Subaru’s new design language that can be seen outside and inside. Subaru calls it their Dynamic and Solid design language. The interior will get significant upgrades in materials and quality. The new sedan and 5-Doors will also be the first to get Subaru’s newly-developed 2.0-liter direct-injection engine. It will come with more power and better fuel economy.
The all-new 2017 Subaru Impreza gets sweeping changes and 7 new firsts for the Japanese automaker. Impreza gets ready for its dealer launch this month in Japan. The new Impreza will be also be built in Lafayette, Indiana for the first time, and will launch later this year in the US.
