Subaru and Subaru Tecnica International (STI) launched the Levorg STI Sport model and it sold out in the first 30 days after it became available in Japan. It should be good news to performance fans around the globe as Subaru begins to launch more new products with the STI badge. What will it mean globally?
Subaru said we would see more STI-enhanced vehicles in the near future, and they are staying true to their word. The Levorg sports tourer was launched on July 21, 2016 and sold out on August 21. Subaru only manufactured 3052 units for the Japan market and they’ve been snatched up quickly by performance fans.
Why that’s good news
The Levorg has seen slow sales in the Japanese market due to a slow economy. With the Levorg STI selling out quickly, it will signal a growing demand for STI-enhanced models not only in Japan, but around the globe. We could see more STI models like a BRZ STI, Forester STI or Crosstrek STI models in the near future, as Subaru makes the transition to the new Global Platform.
Subaru already knows there’s strong demand for the performance WRX STI wrong the world. Product offerings like the fast-selling Levorg STI Sport should tell them other STI-enhanced models will sell well too. Look for the Japanese automaker to expand their STI offerings in the U.S., Australia, and Europe.
Subaru won't be brining the hot hatchback to the U.S., but more STI products are coming. It’s good news for global performance fans as the 2016 Subaru Levorg STI Sport sells out quickly in Japan. Look for more STI-enhanced Subaru vehicles in the near future.
