Most Popular Cars In America - Subaru Has One You Would Never Guess

You would think the most popular cars in America would be SUVs, but that's not the case. Insurify just came out with its annual Most Popular Cars in America (2022) list. The new rankings include eight sedans and two pickup trucks. You can guess the Ford F-150 is on the list, but it's number two behind the Honda Accord sedan.

The list includes the most popular new models in each state, and Subaru has a surprise model on the list. You would think the 2022 Subaru Forester or 2022 Subaru Outback would be the top models in the state of Washington, Oregon, Colorado, or New England states. But it's the 2022 Subaru Impreza compact car ranked number one in the state of Vermont. Subaru does not have any models in the top-10 list.

The ten most popular cars in 2022

The Honda Accord lands the top spot, followed by the Ford F-150, Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Malibu, Ford Fusion, and Hyundai Sonata.

It's not surprising that a Subaru vehicle is the most popular in Vermont because of its northern climate with cold and snowy winters. The average temperatures in the winter are a frigid 2 degrees to 12 degrees. With snow and ice, you need an all-wheel-drive vehicle, and the Subaru Impreza comes standard with all-wheel-drive on all trim levels.

What sets the Subaru Impreza apart?

The 2022 Subaru Impreza is made at the Subaru plant in Lafayette, Indiana. Consumer Reports ranked it among the seven best new cars under $25,000 and said, "The Impreza wows us most with its quiet cabin, roominess, and user-friendly controls, and its ride comfort puts some luxury cars to shame. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is mated to an unobtrusive, continuously variable transmission. We got 30 mpg overall with our sedan, commendable given the standard all-wheel drive."

The 2022 Impreza comes in sedan and hatchback body styles. The hatchback offers 20.8 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, and folding them down opens up 55.3 cubic feet.

The 2022 Impreza comes in base sedan ($19,755), base hatchback ($20,255) Premium sedan ($23,155), Premium hatchback ($23,655), Sport sedan ($24,555), Sport hatchback ($23,955), and Limited hatchback ($27,355). Destination and delivery ($960) are included in the prices above.

What's next for the Impreza?

If you are willing to wait, the Subaru Impreza compact sedan and hatchback will get a complete redesign for the 2023 model year. It will come with new safety technology, possibly a more fuel-efficient 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, and a new cabin design. New models should arrive in early 2023.

In Vermont, the 2022 Subaru Impreza is the surprise model, and the top-selling car up north.
