"I need answers on my new 2025 Toyota Tundra TRD Limited with only 3,000 miles on it. The Panoramic View Monitor is malfunctioning."
Does the Toyota Tundra have problems with its Panoramic View Monitor (PVM)? A new Tundra owner, Maico Vides, turns to the 2025 Toyota Tundra Owners Facebook page looking for answers. His new 2025 Toyota Tundra TRD Limited, with only 3,000 miles, is not working properly.
Is this a common issue with the new Tundra?
Other owners have reported issues with the Tundra PVM. Before I give what others are saying and give some answers that Tundra owners need to know, here is what Maico says.
He says,
"My camera angles stopped working all of a sudden 3,000 miles in on my 2025 Tundra TRD Limited. Only my backup and front cameras show up, and my backup guidelines are gone. My Toyota dealer said no fix is available. Is anyone else going through the same issue?”
Maico even shows the repair ticket from the Toyota dealer after he schedules an appointment to get it fixed. But Toyota said nothing can be done. That's not the answer a new Tundra owner wants to hear after paying $60,000 for his new truck. He wants the problem fixed.
Here is what the Toyota Dealer said:
"The customer states when driving and using the 'bird's eye' camera (PVM), there are options to change the camera angles that are 'greyed out' now. Please check and advise.”
The Toyota technician could not find a fix for the problem, and then the ticket read, "Found repairs being worked on by Toyota, but no repairs are available at this time."
So, Toyota is aware of the problem and is likely working on a software glitch in the truck's Panoramic View Monitor, but they have not come up with a solution at this time. So, they sent Maico on his way without solving his problem. He's not the only one.
Here is what other Tundra owners are saying.
Reddit user oughart18 says, "I'm having Tundra camera issues. The Toyota dealer can't figure this out, so I'm looking here to see if anyone has any ideas. I bought the 2024 Tundra in October 2023 in the middle of December 2023. A message popped up that the backup trailer assist cameras malfunctioned.”
"I brought it to the dealer, and they recalibrated the cameras, but now they are all distorted. I have brought it back to the dealer three times, and they cannot figure it out. They have recalibrated it and reset a bunch of settings."
"The last time I took it to the dealer, they said Toyota was aware of it and looking into how to fix it, but that's been months. It doesn't seem like that big of a deal. I can clearly see enough to maneuver anything, but it seems difficult to justify when you spend this much money on a vehicle."
"I have not had to tow anything yet, but I am worried that the camera's ring would cause some problems, but the dealer doesn't seem to think so."
Toyota's Panoramic View Monitor System Is Complex
The Tundra PVM is a complex system that utilizes cameras on the truck's front, sides, and rear to give the driver a comprehensive 360-degree view of the area around the vehicle.
Toyota says the PVM allows for different views, including a split screen that shows a forward-facing view and an overhead view, and drivers can tap between several views, including the forward-facing view with guidelines, a forward-facing side mirror view, and a backup camera view.
Another Tundra owner says,
Reddit user argodabar says, "I have a 2024 Toyota Tundra Limited. A little over a month ago, my camera system stopped working correctly. I lost all guidelines, was unable to switch views, and the rear section of the 360 camera no longer stitched the cameras together correctly, essentially making it "shorter" than it really was.”
I took it to my local dealership, and they reprogrammed the system, which fixed everything except the 360 view. The truck is back at the dealership today for regular maintenance, so I had them look at the camera and provided the picture attached to this post.
Their response is that the system has the latest firmware, so Toyota says there's nothing they can do. I requested that they recalibrate the system, but they insisted it wouldn't do anything. In the picture, you can see the white road line at the end of the truck via the rearview camera, but the 360 section shows it under the truck.
What should 2024 and 2025 Toyota Tundra Owners Do?
Toyota is reportedly aware of the Tundra PVM issue and is working on a solution. However, as Maico found out when he went to the Toyota dealer, they did not have a fix for the problem.
For 2024 and 2025, Toyota Tundra Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) issues, dealership recalibration, and potential ECU replacement are common solutions reported by owners, though some owners have had ongoing problems despite these fixes.
For now, here are some potential solutions that can provide some reassurance to Tundra owners:
- Dealer Recalibration: Many owners report that their dealerships have been able to fix the issues by recalibrating the camera system.
- Firmware Reset: Some dealerships have also reset the system's firmware to resolve the problems.
- ECU Replacement: In some cases, the ECU has been identified as the problem's source and replaced.
- Lemon Law: If the problems persist and the vehicle is under warranty, consider exploring lemon law options.
Conclusion:
It's important to note that all these repairs are covered under warranty. However, owners should know that many Tundra owners have had to return to the Toyota dealer multiple times to resolve the problem and come away with no fix.
