The New Subaru Crosstrek Slips Again And What’s Coming Next

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek dropped in sales again. Check out the subcompact SUV's performance in February. And see what's next for the Crosstrek.

The remodeled 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is one of the best subcompact SUVs and Subaru of America's (SOA) most significant launch. So why do sales drop in February? I cover the model every month, and Subaru of America reports the 2024 Crosstrek dropped in sales by 15.3 percent last month compared with February 2023.

The all-new Crosstrek missed being the best-selling model in Subaru of America's all-wheel-drive lineup again. The Forester took the top spot and stays the best-performing model for SOA.

The Crosstrek subcompact SUV is the second best-selling model in SOA's lineup, with 12,553 subcompact SUVs delivered to customers last month compared with 14,816 in February 2023. The Crosstrek is down 13.2 percent in the first two months of 2024.

Here are the numbers for February and how Crosstrek compares with Forester and Outback.

  1. Subaru Forester - 14,883 (+48.4%)
  2. Subaru Crosstrek - 11,325 (-15.3%)
  3. Subaru Outback - 10,412 (+14.3%)

As you can see, the Forester and Outback are up in sales performance while the Crosstrek is down again. SOA delivered 23,878 Crosstrek models to customers in the first two months, 27,501 Foresters were sold, and Outback sold 21,712 models.

What's next for the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek?

Customers have no advantage if they are considering waiting for the 2025 Crosstrek. In its second year after the remodel, the Crosstrek will get few upgrades, if any. Subaru will likely keep the 2025 Crosstrek the same in year two of its life cycle, which is typical of the Japanese automaker.

However, customers should know that the 2025 Crosstrek will get a price increase, so those who buy the 2024 Crosstrek now will save money and get essentially the exact vehicle. Subaru won't bring new upgrades until 2026.

Here is the new pricing information for customers looking to buy a 2024 Crosstrek.

For 2024, the Crosstrek will be available in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Wilderness trim levels and has a starting price of $26,290 (the same MSRP as the 2023 Base model equipped with the Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission).

2024 Subaru Crosstrek Premium trim

The 2024 Crosstrek Premium has a starting price of $27,440, Sport ($30,290), and Limited ($32,190). Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,225).

What is the price of the Crosstrek Wilderness?

The all-new 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness costs $33,290, including dealer destination and delivery fees ($1,295).

Customers should know about new developments if they buy a new Subaru this year.

Startling new developments are happening now at Subaru. Inventory levels of new models have increased, and it's now a buyer's market. Check my story here for more information

MY TAKE

It's speculation on my part, as Subaru has not confirmed it, but the 2026 or 2027 Crosstrek subcompact SUV could get a new Hybrid trim level. Subaru Corporation is ramping up new hybrid models, and the Crosstrek will get new hybrid technology, but the question is when.

This is the latest information regarding the new Subaru Crosstrek. I'll keep you updated with any new information.

I purchased a 2024 Subaru Forester Touring because it simply is beautifully... simple. The 2024 has actual switchgear consisting of physical knobs, buttons, and switches. The 8" nav and radio interface is plenty big and I like the separate information screen high on the dash above the very useful shelf. I've driven vehicles that have removed the switchgear to a large center screen and find that setup not intuitive, distracting, overly complicated, and let's not even discuss the glare... using the sunroof becomes impossible because of the reflection. I'm 52, not necessarily old, but old school. I follow the philosophy of KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid 😙

I thoroughly enjoy your articles, very informative and fun to read. I absolutely love my 2019 Outback limited. Its a little quirky, but great to drive and handles the road wonderfully. Keep up the great reports.
