The Next-Generation Impreza Hatch Demand Is So High Subaru Can't Keep Up

The new 2024 Subaru Impreza is selling so well that Subaru can't build enough new models. The all-new next-generation 2024 Impreza hatchback is a hit with compact car shoppers. Check out what U.S. customers can expect this fall.

The all-new 2024 Subaru Impreza compact hatchback is so popular with compact shoppers that Subaru Corporation can't get them to U.S. customers fast enough. Subaru moved production of the 2024 Impreza hatchback to Japan from the U.S. factory, and it's taking longer to ship the new model to Subaru of America's U.S. retailers.

The remodeled 2024 Impreza Base, Sport, and new RS trim levels are a hit, but sales dropped in August because of shipping delays. A source close to Subaru told us they are selling the Impreza as fast as they can get them. Because of the production change, new Impreza sales dropped like a rock.

Even with the drop in August, Impreza is up 21.4 percent in the first eight months of 2023, with 24,296 models sold in 2023.

The Impreza hatch

Subaru of America chose to drop the Impreza sedan, which was a smart move. Instead, the hatchback body style offers the utility and efficiency small car shoppers are looking for in a compact vehicle.

Impreza gets more standard safety technology.

When Subaru dropped the 5-speed manual gearbox from the entire Impreza lineup for 2024, it opened up all Impreza trims to come standard with Subaru's EyeSight suite of safety technology.

A new RS trim level with a 2.5-liter engine

The most significant improvement for the 2024 Impreza lineup is the new Impreza RS trim level, which gets a new 2.5-liter engine upgrade. The RS will be the model that breathes new life into the all-wheel-drive compact car. When Subaru of America offered the 2.5-liter engine in the Crosstrek subcompact SUV, sales shot through the roof. Expect the same positive results for the hot Impreza RS hatch.

180 HP? Yes.
3300 lbs? Yes.
CVT? Yes.
Hot hatch? Nope.
Probably smart to go all in on the "cheap egg-shaped appliance" market in 2024 tho

Can confirm that the new impreza is pretty great. I have a 24RS as well as a 22BRZ. With those 2 vehicles I have everything I need. No useless trucks or SUVs for me.
