Nissan is all about being the leader in EVs, but they also like their NISMO high-performance cars. So now Nissan will bring a new Nissan LEAF NISMO to the Tokyo Motor Show later this month. This will be a concept model, but it looks almost production-ready.
Nissan is on the cutting edge of electric vehicle development, but they could also bring out the worlds first hot hatch EV. This will definitely get the performance fans ready to embrace the EV revolution that is coming. A hot hatch is just what would help move the EV culture forward to more main stream.
There aren’t many details available on the new Nissan LEAF NISMO concept but it would be a great addition to the NISMO (NISsan MOtorsports) stable that includes the Juke, Juke RS , 370Z and GT-R models. When asked recently on Japan 2020, if there would be a LEAF NISMO production model, Hiroshi Tamura, Chief Product Specialist at NISMO, said, “I can’t tell you right now, but my answer to that is why not?”
If Nissan can pull this off, and there’s not reason to believe they can’t with their recent purchase of Mitsubishi, which has the latest EV performance technology, it would be a big boost to the new 2018 LEAF sales. Nissan will unveil the new LEAF NISMO at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017. Stay tuned.

I agree Don, whenever an automaker can attract performance fans, it will help draw in more non-EV buyers. Thanks for reading!
