How hot can the model get before it finally cools off? The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV was beyond red hot to start the year, but it couldn’t last forever. Subaru of America reported April sales are up for nine consecutive months for its all-wheel-drive lineup, but the Crosstrek is down.
The Crosstrek started 2023 hot and was the top performer by volume in January, February, and March. But Crosstrek sales dropped in April with 10,310 vehicle sales compared with 12,017 sales in April 2022. As a result, Crosstrek was down 14.2 percent in April and dropped to second place behind the Outback. Despite the drop, Crosstrek is up 4.8 percent for the year.

Why did Crosstrek cool its heels?
Subaru is running out of the second-generation models as they change the model to the all-new next-generation 2024 Crosstrek.
Subaru of America reported that the next-generation 2024 Crosstrek Sport and Limited trim levels started production in February at the U.S. plant in Lafayette, Indiana. Until now, the Crosstrek has only been manufactured in Gunma, Japan. The all-new Crosstrek Wilderness also will be made at Subaru of Indiana Automotive.

Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales, said, “Now there is even more, to love from our Wilderness line with the announcement of our all-new 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness, which hits showrooms this fall.”
Subaru is now producing the 2024 Crosstrek Sport, Crosstrek Limited, and Crosstrek Wilderness trim levels in the U.S. plant for the first time. However, the Base and Premium Crosstrek trims will still be made in Japan.
Look for Crosstrek sales to heat up again.
We expect sales of the Crosstrek to continue the hot streak when the next-generation models arrive. The remodeled 2024 Crosstrek gets significant upgrades from the second-generation models. The Sport and Limited trims are powered by the re-tuned, slightly more powerful 2.5-liter Boxer engine, producing 182 hp and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. Check out the complete model change guide here.
What is the price of the 2024 Crosstrek?
For 2024, the Crosstrek will be available in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Wilderness trim levels and has a starting price of $26,290 (the same MSRP as the 2023 Base model equipped with the Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission).
The 2024 Crosstrek Premium has a starting price of $27,440, Sport ($30,290), and Limited ($32,190). Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,225).
What is the price of the Crosstrek Wilderness?
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness will be the most expensive Crosstrek trim level. The all-new Crosstrek Wilderness costs $33,290, including dealer destination and delivery fees ($1,295).
As Subaru changes the model to the next-generation Crosstrek, the subcompact SUV finally cools off as 2023 model supplies run out. The Base and Premium trims arrive this spring. Stay tuned.
