Subaru’s Fastest-Selling Used Car Is Not Named Forester, Crosstrek, Or Outback

Surprisingly, Subaru’s fastest-selling used vehicle is not among its top three-selling vehicles. Here are the top ten used models sold now and what you should expect to pay for Subaru’s top pick.

It’s Subaru’s fifth best-selling model.

If you are looking for a used Subaru model, it’s not the Forester, Outback, or Crosstrek. The Impreza is the hottest used Subaru model now. I will show shoppers the pricing and how Subaru ranks with other automakers in regards to how quickly its new and used cars are selling.

Are you looking for a used Subaru?

While the Impreza may be the fastest-selling Subaru model, it’s not necessarily the best deal for everyone. Its popularity is largely due to its affordability as the least expensive Subaru vehicle with all-wheel-drive. My data is sourced from iSeeCars.

Used cars are in high demand.

Despite the initial high cost of new cars, the value of used cars becomes increasingly apparent. Even with new car prices dropping, they are still expensive compared with a 1-5 year old model. However, you can save thousands in depreciation after a few years, making used cars a smart and resourceful choice.

“Between the gradual drop in new car pricing and consistent slow-down in their sales pace, it’s like watching a giant machine slowly wind down,” said Karl Brauer, iSeeCars Executive Analyst.

iSee Cars says the fastest-selling used cars range between 12 to 25 days on the market, below the used car average of 34.2 days and notably quicker than the new car average of 54 days.

Subaru’s Fastest-Selling 1- to 5-Year-Old Used Car is the Impreza compact car.

The Subaru Impreza sells in 23.4 days with an average price of $19,990. Where else can you find a small car with all-wheel-drive, fuel efficiency, top safety scores, and reliability?

The Impreza's popularity is driven by its exceptional fuel mileage, utility, versatility, and all-weather safety. As Subaru’s smallest and least expensive all-wheel-drive vehicle, it's a top choice for many buyers.

Which Impreza model would you consider the best for you?

Find out the differences between the Impreza and Crosstrek in my report here.

iSeeCars says the 2019 Subaru Impreza is the best three-year-old wagon.

  • iSeeCars Quality Score: 8.6
  • Reliability Score: 8.0
  • Retained Value Score: 8.7
  • Safety Score: 9.0
  • Average 3-Year-Old Used Car Price: $23,238

See Cars says, “The Subaru Impreza wagon offers more cargo room than most subcompact SUVs and has an above-average fuel economy. The compact wagon also has standard all-wheel drive, rare for the small car class.”

What are the ten fastest-selling used car brands? I list them from fastest to slowest and by the number of days it takes to sell.

  1. Honda - 26.1
  2. Lexus - 26.3
  3. Toyota - 27.4
  4. Tesla - 27.6
  5. Acura - 27.8
  6. Mazda - 27.9
  7. Subaru - 30.9
  8. Volkswagen - 31.2
  9. Kia - 32.2
  10. BMW - 32.5

The overall Used-Car Average is 34.2 days.

iSeeCars says, “Price-sensitive used car shoppers prefer brands offering both value and reliability, as seen in the dominance of Japanese brands selling fastest among used car buyers,” said Brauer. “Teslas are also among the fastest-selling used cars, likely reflecting the massive drop in their prices over the past year.”

Are you looking for a new car?

What are the ten fastest-selling new car brands, and how many days to sell them?

  1. Toyota - 39.6
  2. Alfa Romeo - 41.8
  3. Cadillac - 43.4
  4. Honda - 44.2
  5. Jaguar - 44.4
  6. Kia - 47.0
  7. Hyundai - 47.1
  8. Subaru - 49.0
  9. BMW - 49.1
  10. Mazda - 53.1

The overall New-Car Average is 54.0 days.

iSeeCars says, “Fast-selling brands like Toyota and Honda represent mainstream consumers seeking maximum value for their new-car dollar,” said Brauer. “Conversely, high-ranking luxury, low-volume brands like Alfa Romeo, Cadillac, and Jaguar reflect both their limited supply and high demand from affluent buyers willing to snap these models up shortly after they arrive on dealer lots.”

Most used Subaru models are in demand if you find a well-maintained, low-mileage model. According to iSeeCars, the Subaru Impreza is the hottest right now.
