The two 2015 Subaru WRX STI GRC cars driven by Sverre Isachsen and Bucky Lasek finished up a disappointing season in Las Vegas for the last round of Red Bull Global Rallycross. Things have not gone right for the team and yesterday was another disappointing outing. Rally America Champion David Higgins couldn’t bring any magic to the team in the DirtFish WRX STI.
The weather played a key part in making things difficult for everyone on the final day of competition. Heavy afternoon rain and lightening delayed the race and left the track wet and slippery. The Subaru WRX STIs were caught up in multiple crashes and the mud in the service area caused more work for the technicians.
In the Semi-Finals, Isachsen’s day eded after a flat tire caused him to spin out and hit a barrier and this was his second crash of the day. David Higgins was taken out during the start of Heat 2 when Austin Dyne pushed him into the wall coming down the front straight. The impact pushed the #75 WRX STI backwards onto the track injuring Higgins wrist.
Bucky Lasek was the only driver to make it to the Final after running in the LCQ that had a red flag and a restart. Lasek started in the back row of the Final and finished eighth after he drove a clean race with no accidents. Now, SRT USA, Subaru Tecnica International and Vermont SportsCar will go back to the shop and see how thy can improve the Subaru WRX STI GRC cars and drivers for next season.
