The 2016 Subaru WRX STI built by Prodrive and Subaru Tecnica International is a special car. It’s a purpose-built STI just for one specific purpose. Break the Isle of Man TT course four-wheel car lap record. Mark Higgins shattered the record with an average lap speed of 128.73 mph and a time of 17 minutes and 35 seconds.
This breaks the previous record held by Higgins of 116.47 mph and a time of 19 minutes and 26 seconds. The chassis is based on the World Rally car and is lighter, gets a paddle shift gearbox. Higgins takes a test lap to get a feel for the new Prodrive-build STI and heats up the tires. The STI gets through a few hairpin curves and hits 152 mph for the start of the record lap. Watch Mark Higgins hit 177 mph on Bray Hill.
