Tesla Cybertruck Owner Says He’ll Be Driving His Escalade The Rest of Winter to Avoid Salt on the Road from Rusting His Truck

Several Cybertruck owners express their fear about how the salt on the roads will affect their trucks. One Cybertruck owner from Michigan says to protect his truck from rusting, he’ll be driving his Cadilac Escalade for the rest of winter.

For most Cybertruck owners, this is the first winter they will experience after buying their truck, and they appear worried.

Some Cybertruck owners have the usual concerns about the performance of EVs in the cold; however, others are worried about how the salt on the road will affect their trucks.

A Tesla Cybertruck owner from Michigan, Jacob, says he so worried about the salt on the road corroding his truck that he has decided to not drive it the rest of winter.

Jacob shared his concern on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

Here is what he wrote…

“It just started to snow here in Michigan, and with that comes SALT! I think I'm going to drive my old Cadilac Escalade while they are salting the roads this winter.”

This is certainly a surprising statement to hear from a Cybertruck owner, especially given that Tesla and Elon Musk have touted the Cybertruck as an apocalypse-proof vehicle.

I guess there won’t be anyone to salt the streets during an apocalypse?

Continuing his post, Jacob says he is not entirely certain that the salt will corrode his Cybertruck, but he still believes it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Here is what he wrote…

Now I doubt that the salt will rust holes in the Cybertruck stainless steel but tarnish it maybe? Maybe it can be buffed out in the spring with Bar Keepers Friend? Then there is the galvanic corrosion that occurs between aluminum and stainless. I'm sure that the engineers at Tesla took that into consideration but how well? Anyway, just wanted to see what other members on Cybertruck Owners Club think about it.”

Looking at the comments, more Cybertruck owners shared their fear that the winter salt might rust their trucks.

A Cybertruck owner from Boston, Massachusetts, Koolio, writes…

“I'm curious about this salt/erosion as well. I'd be truly shocked if it gets ruined over several winters.

That said, I spoke with a local detailer / PPF installer who specializes in Cybertrucks. The owner owns one as well, and when I called inquiring about corrosion or staining, they said they did see some last winter and that they couldn't fully get the stains out.

Another Cybertruck owner from Illinois, who goes by the username Mongo on the forum, seconds this sentiment writing…

“Yep, Michigan here also. Salt in winter, and calcium chloride in summer (dirt roads at least). We run the Cybertruck through an automatic car wash now and then. The most bathed vehicle I've ever had.”

Overall, it’s surprising to see that Cybertruck owners are afraid to drive their trucks during winter. Please let me know what you think in the comments. Mr. Aregay (writer)

Why do you repeat over and over the same information in your article?
Its annoying and lacks any original thought. Also I suggest you wrote a fake story and your quote is false. It reeks of bullsh*t. Behind the scenes I can see a tale becoming real life.

Mr. Aregay is desperate for stories, if he doesn't produce one he wont get paid. All these blistering adds are waiting to be placed along a story and a headline to get a click...he Hope's for thousands. If he doesn't produce hes just like a destitute prostitute. So he scrambles a few moments and bam! Rusty salt blah blah blah blah
Rust salt blahb lu ah blah Tesla rust salt blah b look ah blah Tesla rust salt. Ads placed and publish

Haha 100k vehicle that is supposed to be rugged can't do what a cheap used Subaru can. Watch they will leave these trucks all winter and when spring comes they won't start.
Best vehicle I've ever owned

Those Cyber trucks are not made out of a true stainless. They use 302 stainless which has alot of carbon mixed in with the stainless. This is vunerable to rust and not as stiff/rigid as true stainless. It is also easier to bend in the stamping process for doors, fenders, etc. 316 is a true stainless and is not prone to any kind of rusting. It is harder to stamp and has no carbon in it.

It's not about… (not verified)    December 12, 2024 - 4:41PM

I'm sorry, you live in a very cold state. ANY battery operated vehicle does not work well in sub-freezing temps! They have a hard time taking a charge and a very hard time holding a charge. Let's just be honest, it's not about the salt. It's because you don't want to end up stranded on the side of the road in a cold metal box!

If only someone could invented a thin coating that could be applied to metal to prevent rust. Maybe a liquid that could be sprayed on for convenience that hardens as it dries. That would be a miracle product.

So you spent 100k on a vehicle and also kept your old one because your afraid of winter conditions. Isnt that why we buy 4wheel drive trucks? To get around in winter. Sounds like you didn't really need that cyber truck after all.

Wash and dry well. Then apply a stainless steel 2:1 cleaner and polish, like Weiman’s. It’s amazing, I use it for my stainless appliances as well. Yeah, it needs to be treated often but it makes the water bead off, and any salty residue very, very easy to remove. It last about as long as Rain-X does for your windshield.
