Kimbal Musk On Tesla Vehicles Having No Steering Wheel In 5 Years
Kimbal Musk just said that Tesla cars will not have a steering wheel in 5 years, and that we'll probably see the robotaxi vehicle before that time.
When asked about how far away we are before FSD is approved, Kimbal Musk took his hands off the steering wheel and showed that he was driving with no hands.
He said FSD is about smoothness, not just about how it is driving. It notices pedestrians and slows down for them, so you are not as afraid of things while driving.
It's all about how do you get it to be better and better over time. He thinks maybe 5 years before it's approved, and Tesla vehicles have no steering wheel.
He also thinks that before that, the robotaxi vehicle will come out.
Tesla also has to get through government regulation processes, and they should be safety first.
In the drive, he says that technically, the car just drove them to the restaurant.

Kimbal Musk is Elon Musk's brother, and also a member of the Board of Directors.
When Tesla vehicles will become autonomous has been a hot topic, but one thing has remained true - it hasn't happened yet.
Still, there are little increments happening, and the latest is version 12, which uses neural nets only to drive.

2029 is certainly further along than many think for autonomous Tesla vehicles - at least in the Tesla community of investors. However, even if it took this long for the robotaxi network to launch, this would still be a big win for Tesla.
It's not a matter of if, but when Tesla vehicles become autonomous. It's a matter of little steps along the way, improvements in the software through training it through video and data labeling and fixing any issues or bugs that are seen.
It's upgrading the hardware over time and the onboard computer, so that the software is more responsive and can handle and see more.

Little changes like this over time is how a Tesla vehicle will become autonomous. It may not seem like it's going to happen today, but one day, Tesla will be given the green light from government regulators because the technology is just too important.
So many lives are going to be saved from autonomous vehicles that drive much safer than a human.
If 2029 is the latest that Tesla can get to autonomy, I'm OK with that.
