Impactful Software and AI
There are many important software and AI projects that have been done. ChatGPT enables us to talk to a human-like console and get back information from its understanding of our words we use to talk to it. That is pretty significant.
So is the human genome project, a mapping of human DNA. Other projects that are consequential are the development of the Internet and the standards and protocols that allows us to use websites, communicate with each other without a phone, and to find a wide array of information at our fingertips.
These important projects are consequential and have made human life better. There is, however, one that is even more important than these.

For a project to be more consequential than these, it would have to affect - or have the potential to affect billions of lives positively.
It can do this by:
- Saving lives
- Reducing costs
- Making something easier
- Making something more enjoyable
What software and AI project can do all four of these? I'm glad you asked, because I have an answer. It's software that has been called: "One of the most valuable things, that is ever done, in the history of civilization."

The Most Ambitious and Consequential Software and AI Project Is:
Tesla's full self-driving software, also known as FSD, is this project. Right now, this project isn't viewed this way by most people. It's viewed as something by most people that is kind of nice, but that they wouldn't trust, and they would rather drive their car manually than trust a computer. It's viewed as something of a long shot - a "call option" on Tesla, if you will.
However, this is going to change and FSD is going to show with data why it is the most consequential software and AI project of our lifetime.
It is going to do all the four outlined things: savings lives, reducing costs, making something easier, and making something more enjoyable.

Saving Lives:
Tesla FSD will save lives as it gets better and increasingly more capable than any human driver. With enough data and fine-tuning, it's likely to get twice as good, then five times as good, then ten times as good as any human driver. It's just a matter of time and data training and labeling.
Reducing Costs:
It won't reduce costs right now to use FSD because you must pay attention at all times and keep interacting with the steering wheel. However, there is going to come a time that FSD will no longer require paying attention to the road.
When this happens, it means that Tesla vehicles will be able to be ride hailed and used just like an Uber/Lyft, but without a human driver.
As millions of Tesla vehicle become autonomous and in the future, we get the compact car, sub-compact car, and the robotaxi vehicle, there is the potential for hundreds of millions of Tesla vehicles on the road that are autonomous and can be hailed at any moment to go anywhere.
The costs of transport will greatly go down with so many readily available vehicles. Even if the cost were the same as Uber/Lyft, this would still be the desired method, as wait times would be incredibly low.
Making Something Easier:
FSD will make driving easier. It will be simplified as the car and software handles everything. You won't need to learn how to drive anymore - all you'll need to learn is how to get in and out of a car, and how to input destinations to travel to.
Making Something More Enjoyable:
A ride with software that is superior to a human is going to be more enjoyable, as the car will know exactly what to do in all situations. This will make for a better and more smooth driving experience.
Not only that, but robotaxi owners will enjoy using their cars when they aren't using them, to make money for them, creating enjoyment for fleet or single Tesla car owners.
