Tesla: 465 Mile Range EV
Tesla is reportedly working on a new version of the Model S and this version will have 465 miles of range. You might wonder how this is going to happen and why there is such a big range increase from the 405 miles of range that the AWD version of the Model S has.
First off, 465 miles of range would be a 13% increase in range for the Model S - that is a big jump. The new model could be made possible by using Panasonic's 4680 battery cells, which are expected to offer a significant range increase.
Tesla has not commented or set a release date for the new Model S, but it is expected to be released in 2023 or 2024. The reason for this expectation is that Tesla is always doing a refresh and update on its vehicles - things are never standing still at Tesla.
With 465 miles of range, that is quite a jump in range from the previous Model S and this might make it more appealing to buyers or long-distance drivers who live in areas where the charging infrastructure hasn't quite caught up with the growth in EVs.

Future Range of Tesla Vehicles
Using 4680 battery cells would be a big step-up for the Model S and its technology. These cells would allow Tesla to offer a longer range without increasing the size or weight of the battery pack.
Because the Model S is what I consider to be a premium luxury vehicle, I think the Model S getting to 465 miles of range is not out of the question. Tesla does not need to optimize costs with this vehicle because of the luxury segment it is in.
If Tesla gets the Model S to 465 miles of range and keeps the cost down, staying in the $80,000 to $90,000 range, then I expect sales might actually increase for this vehicle.
Some have said that the Model S and Model X are dying vehicles, but if they keep getting major technological upgrades, then I think there will still be people buying them.
Do you think Tesla will buy 4680 battery cells from Panasonic and put them in the Model S?
