Tesla Tire - Opened Up To See What's Inside
The Tire of a Model X had a nail in it and was flat. It was taken to Discount Tire and the man was told that they couldn't fix it. Discount Tire said that Tesla had something special and proprietary inside the Model X tire, and they didn't want to mess with it.
So, he and his friend, decided to take matters into their own hands and cut open the tire to see what is inside it.
They took a knife and saw and began to try and open up that tire. Zach, one of the two men, was very clear that you generally shouldn't try this, especially if the tires are over inflated. If the tires are at the recommended PSI or less, then it won't likely be a problem.
Most places will fix your flat tire for free. If you get damage in the side wall of the tire, it's super dangerous, expensive, and difficult to repair. Most nails and flats occur on the flat part of the tire that is driven on.

Zach took the tip of his knife to the valve stem of the tire to gradually let air out. Shortly after, he took his knife and began cutting into the tire. He began to find layers inside as he did so, and after a hard stab, the tire began to hiss and lose air.
You don't want to drive on a flat because it damages the side wall. Tesla gave a message saying the tire pressure was low and at 0 PSI. Fortunately, the Tesla Model X was close to the point they needed to reach to take the tire apart.
Tesla has a jack/suspension button - at least in this particular Model X.

Taking the Tire Off and Opening Up Completely
Zach ended up jacking the car and taking the tire off. He unscrewed all the lug nuts and got the tire off. He showed the shocks of the Model S and the motor, which was in the middle of the wheels. This Model X is a dual-motor vehicle.
The tire was very durable when trying to stab it on the flat side. Even with hard knife thrusts, they weren't able to cut into the tire. However, they took an electric saw to the tire and were then able to open it up.
After peeling back the tire with smoke coming out of it, a giant section of foam was revealed going around the entire inside the tire. This makes Tesla tires more quiet.
Tesla said it was ridiculous that Discount Tire wouldn't change the tire.
According to this video, to fix a tire like this, you can cut it open and cut out a section of the foam where the flat is, flip it open, repair the hole, get some glue and glue the foam back on.

After patching the tire, they rolled it back to the Model S to put it back on.
I was surprised to see foam inside the Tesla tire. Since this video was from years ago, I'm curious what Tesla tires have inside them today. This is some genius engineering, and I wonder if anybody else is doing that with their tires.
