Maserati Announces Recall For Levante Due To the Gearbox

It seems lately that we have been writing a lot of stories about Maserati recalling one or many of their models. Sadly, this trend continues as the Italian automaker announced another recall.

This time, it deals with 3,299 Levantes built between July 1, 2016 and December 13, 2016. According to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the transmission can suddenly shift into neutral during low-speed driving such as stop-go traffic. This can also cause the engine to turn off.

Maserati began investigating this issue after getting a complaint from an owner in China last October. A month later, the automaker found out it was an issue dealing with the engine software. Maserati's engineers created a software update and have started using it on models built after February 21.

Dealers will reflash the Levante's ECU with the new software at no charge to owners. Owners will begin to be notified later this month. If you have any questions or concerns, you are asked to call Maserati customer service at 1-201-510-2369.
