The redesigned Ram 1500 has won countless awards, but the latest one truly sets its apart from other pickup trucks. Cars.com has singled out the 2020 Ram 1500 as its Luxury Car of the Year. The 2020 Ram 1500 is the first truck ever to win the award. Winners are said to represent the ultimate in luxury usability and drivability.
“The 2020 Ram 1500 Longhorn and Limited trims stand out from the crowd thanks to their stunning interiors with premium wood, leather, metal and chrome finishes, an awe-inspiring multimedia system and outstanding ride quality,” said Jenni Newman, Editor-in-Chief of Cars.com. “The Ram 1500’s top trim levels are stunning and well deserving of Cars.com’s Luxury Vehicle of the Year award.”
2020 Ram 1500 Features Luxurious Upgrades
The award certainly illustrates the significant upgrade that Ram has made in its vehicles’ interiors. The 2019 Ram 1500 was the first to receive the makeover. It received tremendous accolades from both the media and the buying public. The changes elevated the pickup from merely a work truck to more of a family vehicle. Some have called the Ram 1500 a “Ritz Carlton on Wheels” for its premium leather and wood finishes, reclining seats and state-of-the-art infotainment system with 12” touchscreen. The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty received a similar makeover and is receiving similar praise. Ram designers have told me in the past that they set out to design a truck that is the most luxurious in its class.
More Leather, More Expensive Finishes, More Storage
Not only is the 2020 Ram 1500 filled with luxurious finishes like premium wood and leather, it also has a lot more interior storage than other similar trucks. The 2020 Ram 1500 has nearly twice the interior storage capacity versus the competition, with locking Ram Bins built into the floor and additional storage under the rear seats.
“This award validates Ram’s unrelenting efforts to deliver more comfort, refinement and value to our customers,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand. “The Ram 1500 Longhorn and Limited are examples of how we deliver the most luxurious pickups in the industry. It is immensely satisfying to have Cars.com recognize the Ram 1500 as Luxury Car of the Year.”
The 2020 Ram 1500 Is Loaded With Technology
Ram has also been intent on using its trucks to set the benchmarks in each class. The huge 12” touchscreen has been the talk of the truck industry. The larger display makes it easier to control. The ability to divide the display into split-screens allows the driver to better navigate the surroundings, while also being able to monitor the cargo in the pickup bed. Ram also added 360-degree camera views, also helping the driver.
The Ram 1500 has already won more awards than any other light duty truck, ever. One of the things that makes the 2020 Ram 1500 feel more luxurious is its smoother ride. Ram features a segment-exclusive link-coil rear suspension system with optional Active-level four-corner air suspension, that helps level out the truck and make it more responsive and easier to control.
While the 2020 Ram 1500 is filled with luxurious appointments like a hand-wrapped leather dashboard and real barnwood handcrafted trim, it is also one of the most capable vehicles on the road. The 2020 Ram 1500, equipped with the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, can tow 12,750 pounds, with a payload of 2300 pounds. The all-new V-6 EcoDiesel features best-in-class diesel torque with 480 lb.-ft. and diesel towing capability of 12,560 pounds. The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel also leads all trucks in fuel range. Paired with an available 33-gallon fuel tank, Ram’s driving range exceeds 1,000 miles.
The 2020 Ram 1500 is a fascinating marriage of capability and comfort. The truck can accomplish virtually everything that you need it to while allowing the passengers to ride in style and safety. The Ram 1500 features more than 100 active safety and security systems, including adaptive cruise control, Forward Collision Warning, Blind-spot Monitoring and Ready Alert Braking.
It is fascinating that Cars.com has made the leap and has named a truck the luxury vehicle of 2020. It is a sign of how important and essential trucks are in our society.
