The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is one of the most hotly-anticipated pickups in years because of its astounding torque and towing capacity. Now, fuel economy numbers may also boost demand. Ram says that the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 4x2 will get 32 miles per gallon during highway driving. Coupled with a 33-gallon tank, the rank will be 1,056 miles. That is the highest for currently rated pickups. The 4x2 will get 22 mpg in the city, for a combined average of 26 mpg.

The 2020 Ram 1500 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel is already drawing huge interest because of its torque of 480 lb.-ft. and its towing capacity of 12,560 pounds. Both are the highest for any half-ton diesel right now.
“The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel offers the best torque and towing among all half-ton diesel trucks,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand. “Now with a 10-year track record, the Ram brand has emerged as a truck powertrain technology leader. The all-new EcoDiesel engine and Ram 1500 eTorque mild-hybrid powertrains deliver outstanding fuel efficiency alternatives for our Ram 1500 customers.”
Third-Generation EcoDiesel Available on All 2020 Ram Models
Ram is making the 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel available across all trim levels, including the popular Rebel model.
I was lucky enough to drive the red 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel shown above and was really impressed with how quiet it was and how well it accelerated. The third-generation EcoDiesel is a huge improvement over past diesels that often smelled and had a loud diesel rattle. The quietness of the new diesel is a welcome change.
Improved Fuel Economy Across the Diesel Line-Up
Ram is also claiming strong fuel economy numbers for its 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel in the 4x4 version. The 4x4 gets 29 mpg during highway driving. Ram says that 4x4s make up more than 80 percent of the U.S. full-size truck purchases and that the 29 mpg is unsurpassed. The 4x4 is rated at 21 mpg for the city and a combined rating of 24 mpg.
According to Ram, the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will start at $36,890 for the Tradesman Quad Cab 2WD, plus $1,695 destination. The EcoDiesel is a $4,995 option, or $3,000 premium over the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 eTorque.
According to Ram, it will still be offering the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Crew Cab with the second-generation 3.0-liter EcoDiesel. Pricing for the Ram 1500 Classic EcoDiesel (Crew Cab 4x2) starts at $39,140, plus destination charges.
The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 is built at the FCA Cento facility in Ferrara, Italy.
