Jeep is promising a new battery electric vehicle that will combine style, speed and sophistication. The automaker is telling fans to “Get Ready to Take a Seat in the All-new, All-electric Jeep Wagoneer S”. This will be the Jeep brand’s first global battery-electric vehicle. The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S will debut in the U.S. this fall and will be sold globally after that.
The 2024 Wagoneer S Was Announced in September of 2022
At the time I wrote, “The Wagoneer family will expand with a new midsize version. Code-named Wagoneer S, this all-electric vehicle will be considered a premium 4x4 SUV. It will also be released only as a BEV. Designers are hoping that the Wagoneer S will be able to travel 400 miles on a single charge. Jeep is targeting it as 600 horsepower with a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds.”
“We’ll delight our customers with a premium, highly efficient SUV that is loaded with technology and high quality craftmanship, offering 4x4 capability, high performance, rapid acceleration and a target range of 400 miles on a single charge,” added Christian Meunier, who was the head of Jeep at the time.
Design Chief Ralph Gilles said then that “The new 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S EV stands for “Speed, Striking and Sexy”.
2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Details
The new information confirms much of what we were told about the Wagoneer S at the outset. The mid-size SUV will be offered exclusively as a BEV. The Jeep Wagoneer S will have off-road capability with all-terrain management, advanced Jeep brand-focused technology and impressive performance credentials. The Wagoneer S is still expected to have 600 horsepower and a lightning fast 0-60 mph time of around 3.5 seconds. Its exterior design is marked by a reimagined LED-lit class-exclusive seven-slot Jeep brand grille.
The new Jeep Wagoneer S is part of the Jeep brand’s ongoing global electrification initiative of accomplishing Zero Emission Freedom. The plan supports Stellantis' ambition to become a carbon net zero corporation by 2038 as outlined in the company's Dare Forward 2030 long-term strategic plan.
Jeep Wagoneer's Future
A couple of months after the Wagoneer S was announced in 2022, Jeep invited fans to rename the mid-size SUV. Obviously, the company reconsidered and decided to proceed with the code-name S. Also, as you may have noticed, for a time Jeep tried to make Wagoneer its own Stellantis brand. Today’s announcement reiterates that Wagoneer is part of Jeep going forward. When you have a brand name as strong as Jeep, it makes sense to keep the brand’s reputation and buyer loyalty on your side.
