One forum I checked has 19 pages of complaints dedicated to the air conditioning issues. The last post, in September of 2016, pretty well sums up the frustration. This 2014 Silverado owner says he has had to take it in for repairs every three months. “This was my first new car to me. I was planning to buy one for my daughter, but not with this track record. I just had the AC fixed 2 months ago. Today, on the way home from work, the compressor seized and the belt broke. Now it's Friday, no service centers are open, and I live in the south so it is hot and I have no AC. I was planning to take the kids out on the boat, but I am not putting them in a hot truck with no AC. This may very well be the last Chevy I ever buy.”
This owner reported his problem, in late August of 2016. “So I have a 2014 Silverado crewcab. Last year during the height of summer with my kids in the truck my ac broke. I bought this thing new in June of 2014. So I take it in and it was a broken line. I was just a hair over the 36000 miles already in a year but the service guy took care of me. Well here we are now with the temps in the 100's in San Antonio 13 months after the ac was fixed, and it's broke again. I hate this truck.”
Other drivers are reporting similar issues. What appears to be the most upsetting is that the same issues keep reoccurring. The air conditioner suddenly starts blowing warm air. The owners say the repairs take time and never fix the problem for long. “Turns out the compressor and a
hose went out on it. Warranty took care of it but I was left without a vehicle for a few days and upset that practically a new vehicle was already having issues. Got my truck back and about 2 months later guess what? You guessed, the a/c went out again and another compressor went bad.”
A check of the website that monitors complaints about all vehicles, finds that there have been 11 formal complaints made about the ongoing problems with the air conditioning on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverados.
One owner named Brad, from Little Rock, says a dealership finally levelled with him and told him what the real problem is. Brad says they told him “They have a design flaw in the metal part of the hose so we replace the hose and add a support bracket. I asked them why the 2016 models do not have the bracket and was told the a/c hose was redesigned for them and the new hose would not work on a 2014 model.” Brad is furious because he had to pay for the repair and General Motors will not reimburse him.
Another owner, from Texarkana, adds “Was told by the dealer that a bracket had broken and a hose came loose and it would be 550.00 dollars to fix. Time to change brands.”
There have not been any recalls issued for the hose and bracket problems, but it sounds like the issue is wide spread enough that dealers should be aware of the proper repairs. If you are having your AC repaired, It might help to point out all of the complaints and see if you can get it replaced under warranty, or if they will work with you on bringing down the price.

Mine has also quit working. Dealer said about a thousand dollar fix. I've been GM for 40 years but if they don't do something on this I will change brands. Certainly not an isolated problem.

Same problem, 2014 Silverado Truck with broken AC 42000 miles 4 months out of warranty and no help WHATSOEVER from Chevrolet customer care or Dealership. The friggin idiot who designed this should be hung by his/her balls/tits , THIS IS A MAJOR ENGINEERING MISTAKE. These bastards should be held accountable for an extremely poorly designed system. I’m selling this piece of junk as soon as I can and the next one WILL NOT be a Chevy !!!
I will raise some hell on all fronts on social media and so should YOU...

I have a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado LT Z71 I have 110,000 miles on it and my AC has gone out. I did not know about the issue until this happened. I have been without my truck for seven days while a mechanic has put a new compressor and condenser on. Today I picked up my truck only to find out I still have no AC. This was my sixth truck from Chevrolet. It may be my last !!!!!

My 2014 Silverado waited until 60,000 miles for the a/c to crap out, but that is still unacceptable. I traded in a Ford with 350,000 miles on it and never had an issue like this. Unless Chevy has a recall for this problem, they will never see my face in a showroom again.

I have a 2014 chevy pickup and the condenser went bad, leaked freon out. The new dealer charged me $1700 to change condenser hoses and seals. This should be a recall fix with GM knowing they have a design flaw the condenser and hoses. I owned a 2008 silverado and never had any problems with A/c working . GM needs to start paying for a/c repairs or is gong to loose alot of customers. This is a bad sign of GM backing their product. Very unhappy and will not buy another if not reimbersed for their design flaw.
2014 Sierra 1500, A/C started
Permalink
2014 Sierra 1500, A/C started blowing hot air at 33,000+ miles. Chevy dealer serviced by replacing air condenser for $1267.43. Called GM filed complaint since I found out that this was a chronic problem noted on the internet, without any responsible manufacturer recall. 24 hrs. later, got a call back from GM, sorry "out of warranty".
I was reminded by the dealer to save my receipt, since this apparently is a known and chronic problem. Looks like the next vehicle won't be a GM product. This is being said by a long time GM/Chevy purchaser. Not any more.
Filed complaint with NHSTA.

I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado with 36,000 miles and on Friday... The AC started blowing warm air. Called GM Customer Service on Friday they made an appointment at my dealer to have the AC checked out. I had the AC appointment on Monday at the dealer and was not told that there would be a charge for this appointment that I would be responsible for. Dealer called me to see who was going to pay for the diagnostic testing of the AC and I thought GM was going to pay for it. GM was very misleading I thought they would help me with this AC problem ...being that it is all over the Internet that there obviously is a problem with the 2014 Chevy SILVERADO air-conditioning. I believe it is a manufactures defect in the 2014’s. Which has been corrected after 2016. I am very frustrated that GM will not take care of this problem for me being that this Problem is On going with the 2014 Chevy Silverado. And my truck only has 36,000 miles on it. They should issue a recall in this matter. I think I’m going to trade my Chevy in for a dodge or a Ford! I am not a happy Chevy Customer! I have had owed Chevy’s for years. Time to switch to ford or a dodge!

My air condition seized and snapped the belt. unfortunately my warranty just ended in April 2017. This seems to be a common problem with your 2014 Silverado and is noted with a multitude of other owners. Why hasn’t this issue been addressed as a call back problem? I am extremely angry about this. I understand, as a manufacturer, you will have production issues from time to time. How your company deals with such problems is a much bigger issue. It will not financially ruin me to pay for the repairs out of pocket. That I have to pay out of pocket for a known issue will prohibit me from dealing with Chevrolet in the future.

My 2015 Silverado AC quit

My 2015 Silverado AC quit blowing cool air this winter (2019). I can add refrigerant with a dye and the compressor kicks on. It then blows cool for a couple days then goes back to warm (compressor not turning). Add more refrigerant and repeat (good for a couple days). I have looked with a UV light under the vehicle, around the compressor and all lines, taken the dash apart and see no sign of leaking refrigerant. Where does it go? Come on Chevrolet, recall!!!!!

Add me to the list. 2015 Silverado w/ 68k miles. AC started blowing warm. Called my mechanic and he immediately said "Yeah we have the hoses and condensers in stock." He told me it's a common failure for my vehicle. So I googled it and sure enough this is a common problem like he said. Chevy needs to step up to the plate and admit it's a faulty design. Very disappointed and will not be purchasing another Chevy product.

I’ve had chevys most of my adult life, currently I own 2014 Silverado LT. I have had it in the shop more than all of my other chevys put together. Rear end problems, transfer case problems, torque converter problems, front brake problems and now the a/c is blowing hot. Not sure what it is but I guess I will need to get my wallet ready. Chevy needs to know I have choices on the next truck I buy, which may be pretty soon.

I purchased my 2014 in February, 2015 as a demo with 3K on it. Last August at 42K The A/C failed. It was repaired by the original dealer. In October of 2018 whie on a road trip it failed again. It was repaired by a Chevy dealer. It is not May, 2019 and the A/C is out again. I have a truck with 50K miles on it and it will be going in for it's third A/C repair in 9 months. I already have sunk almost $2500 in A/C repairs into this vehicle already. I'm not a happy camper (at all) right now. I had a case open with GM on the first time trying to get them to honor it under warranty but their response was "should have got the extended warranty"

Update on my earlier post. I did manager to go to the dealer and express my extreme displeasure with things while not being derogatory to them of yelling. I may have used some colorful phraseology may have been used. At one point the service manager asked me if "I would like some assistance" and I said yes. He said he "needed to hear me say that" So said it and he got up and headed into see his boss.
Long story short... my compressor replacement and evap work and all the other stuff got knocked down to $179. Not ideal but I didn't drive away mad either.
