The 2014 Ford Fiesta ST carries an MSRP of $21,400 plus $795 destination fee and for that price, the buyer gets a turbocharged 1.6L EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine that sends197 horsepower and 214lb-ft of torque to the front wheels by means of a proper six speed manual transmission while also offering an estimated 34 miles per gallon on the highway (official fuel economy figures have not been announced). That price also includes a unique body kit with a more aggressive front and rear fascia, unique aluminum wheels, performance exhaust, sport tuned suspension, a rear spoiler and model specific badging on the outside while sport seats wearing the ST logo with contrasting stitching, the high end Ford infotainment system and other small features dress up the interior. That base price of $21,400 also includes the buyers choice of five exterior colors – Performance Blue, Race Red, Ingot Silver, Oxford White and Tuxedo Black.
The only exterior options for the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST 5-door are the $795 power moonroof and the 17” Rado Gray premium wheel option that look just like the standard wheels except these wheels are dark gray where the standard wheels are silver. The optional wheels also add bright red brake calipers. Also, if buyers want to opt for the Green Envy or Molten Orange Metallic Tri-Coat paint options, those add $595 to the final price. On the inside, the Fiesta ST can be ordered with partial leather Recaro seats for $1,995, a cargo management package for $115, a $95 ash tray/coin holder and a $795 Sony audio and navigation system. The leather Recaro package can be ordered in either Molten Orange (orange centers, dark bolsters) or Smoke Storm (all dark gray) but the Molten Orange interior cannot be chosen with the Performance Blue, Green Envy or Race Red exterior paint options.
If you check every box in the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST configurator, including the Molten Orange exterior paint, the dark wheels, the sunroof, the sound system upgrade and the Molten Orange Recaro interior, the total price tops out at $26,960. For my money, I would opt out of the cargo management package and the ash tray but I would be all over that Molten Orange interior/exterior setup so my “dream Fiesta ST” would run right around $26,750.
Unfortunately – of fortunately for Ford Motor Company – there are not a great many high performance 5-door hatchbacks in the US market so there isnt much basis for comparison for the 2014 Fiesta ST. One key competitor is the Volkswagen GTI that comes as a 5-door hatchback with a base price of $24,595 while packing 200 horsepower and 207lb-ft of torque and offering 31mpg on the highway. The Fiesta ST has an advantage in torque, price and MPGs while facing only a slight difference in horsepower. Should you add things like the navigation system and sunroof to the VW, the price jumps to $28,545 so whether in “bare” or loaded form…the Fiesta ST is less expensive than the VW GTI.
