The new Ford Focus ST is one awesome hot hatch but the folks at Cobb Tuning take the EcoBoost’d compact sports car to a whole new level with a host of upgrades to improve the acceleration, the handling and the aerodynamics – while also looking great. The 2012 SEMA Show offered a handful of gussied up Focus ST examples but the Foust Edition ST was my favorite of the group. The black, red and matte silver exterior package has a sinister, race ready look while the suspension, braking and engine modifications back up the looks.
"I've been a fan of hot hatches since I was a kid living in Scotland," said Foust. "This special edition Focus ST is what happens when I get to take an already great hot hatch and push its performance limits to make it exactly what I wanted as a kid and what I would like to drive on the street."
The Tanner Foust Edition Ford Focus ST begins on the outside where Cobb Tuning adds an adjustable carbon fiber chin spoiler, carbon fiber side skirts, custom grille filler and a carbon fiber rear spoiler. The Tanner Foust Edition Focus ST at the SEMA Show also had a dual hood vents that may or may not make it through to the production package. Next, the Foust Edition adds the stripe package that runs along the lower rocker area and from the front end – up over the roof and down the back end. The exterior upgrades are capped off by a set of 19 inch Motegi Tanner Foust Edition wheels painted matte black. On the inside, the Foust Focus ST gets unique Katzkin suede and leather ST seats, unique floormats and a special suede steering wheel.
The performance attributes of the Tanner Foust Edition Ford Focus ST have not been fully announced but based on what we saw at SEMA, we can expect an adjustable KW suspension package that includes front coilovers, rear springs and rear shocks along with adjustable sway bars from Whiteline. A huge Brembo brake package featuring 4 piston monoblock calipers finishes off the handling upgrades with the help of the aforementioned Motegi rims making sure that these impressive looking brakes are clearly visible for all to see.
The standard Ford Focus ST offers 252 horsepower but the Cobb tuned Tanner Foust Edition Focus ST will produce somewhere in the area of 300 horsepower. This is achieved by adding a new intake air box, a larger intercooler, a high flow performance exhaust system and a Cobb ECU calibration – all of which work together to surely make te Foust Edition ST a total blast to drive.
"Working with Tanner on this project for the Focus ST is exciting for us," said COBB Tuning CEO Trey Cobb. "He is a driver who really understands how vehicles can best put power to the ground and that's what helps us to develop great upgrade packages. The Tanner Foust Edition Focus ST is the natural extension of the work we've been doing with Subaru, Mazda and BMW," said Cobb. "This is a great opportunity for us to help redefine the aftermarket with Ford."
The production version of the Tanner Foust Edition Ford Focus ST by Cobb Tuning will make its grand debut at the 2013 SEMA Show. While there have been no pricing figures announced, we can expect a full complement of information including pricing, availability and complete specifications in April when the new webpage www.FoustEdition.com goes live.
