2017 Subaru WRX STI sales redline in Canada while US sales seem to have flatlined. The WRX and WRX STI performance sedans are alive and well in both countries but Canada saw explosive growth with sales up 82.8 percent in August for Subaru’s performance models. In the US, WRX/STI sales declined 5.1 percent. Canadians also buy more of the sports cars over other Subaru models compared to US consumers.
Subaru of America marked their best-ever sales month in company history and sales are hot. Subaru Canada also announce its highest sales ever for the month of August. Sales of the WRX and WRX STI in the US are still slightly up for the year at 1.7 percent increase YTD. It’s the Outback and Legacy, two models produced in Indiana that are way up for 2016.
In Canada, the WRX and WRX STI performance sedans are selling well as Canadians are buying more of the 4-door sports cars than ever before. In total numbers of cars, the US leads its northern neighbor by a lot with 3,194 units sold in August. Canadian dealers sold 477 units during the month. But when you compare percentages, the Canadian dealers are selling an extraordinary number of WRX/STIs compared with the rest of their Subaru all-wheel-drive vehicles.
Canadians buy more Subaru WRX/STIs over other models than US buyers
WRX/STI sales accounted for more than 10 percent of their overall sales in the lineup in Canada. In the US, the WRX/STI accounted for around 5 percent of the total lineup sales. Canadians are snatching up more of the Subaru sports cars when they walk into showrooms than the other models compared to US buyers.
August was a great month in North America with both US and Canada setting records. The rally-bred 2017 Subaru WRX and WRX STI is selling well in both countries, but Canadians are buying double the number of Subaru WRX/STIs over other all-wheel-drive models than US buyers.

If they can figure out a way to make the WRX more gas efficient it will perform Better in the states. The car is fantastic but the mpg is the only reason I don't have one in my garage
