The next-generation Subaru BRZ will get Subaru’s new design language like we see in the 2017 Impreza. But what will it look like on the sports coupe? Subaru Japan released a picture of the sports car on their Facebook page that could reveal what it will look like when it arrives.
President of Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, confirmed a new-generation Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86 is coming. He said recently, “The full-model change of the BRZ will happen.” A new Toyota 86 will also be developed along with the BRZ.
Yoshinaga also said, “We cannot produce or develop the BRZ without the support of Toyota. That is our hope and intent, but we haven't made a contract or such yet. The BRZ is an important model for Subaru, so we will continue to develop the BRZ with Toyota.”
A new BRZ STI will also likely be coming
At the Tokyo Motor Show 2015, Subaru Tecnica International (STI) President, Yoshio Hirakawa told Motoring.com.au the number of stand alone Subaru STI models could triple in the next year and that four models could be coming soon. One of those models is likely a BRZ STI performance coupe. Hirakawa “controversially” confirmed STI engineers are working on potential advanced technology that could make a BRZ STI a reality.
Don’t look for a turbocharged model. Hirakawa says until now, Subaru has ruled out a turbocharged version of the BRZ sports coupe because of turbo, intercooler and crash test incompatibilities.
Subaru has stated, more STI models are coming and it looks like a series production BRZ STI will be coming soon. The picture above shows what the next-generation Subaru BRZ sports coupe design styling could look like.
