The 2017 Subaru Forester beat two formidable opponents to take home the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada’s (AJAC) 2017 “Utility Vehicle of the Year” honors. Forester was one of three finalists vying for the top honors, and the small SUV beats the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC, and the all-new Chrysler Pacifica to get the top honors. All three vehicles were category winners: The GLC 300 4MATIC was Best Premium Utility Vehicle, the Pacifica was the Best Large Utility Vehicle.
Forester checks off five major boxes
The Forester was tops in Value Price, Safety, Environment, Market Significance and Consumer Appeal categories. The Forester scored 758 total points, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC was second with 753 points, and Chrysler Pacifica third with 733 points.
5 categories consumers care about
Subaru’s Forester ($22,595 USD) is a great value, comes with all-road/all-weather capability, offers superior reliability, advanced safety features, and features excellent utility/cargo carrying ability making it a good choice for North American consumers. This wasn’t the first Canadian award for the small SUV. It was also named Canada's Best New Small Utility this past December. Other recent AJAC awards for the brand include the 2015 Legacy (Canadian Car of the Year) and the 2015 Outback (Best New SUV/CUV under $35K).
The vehicles were selected by 90 Canadian automotive journalists who gathered last October at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park of Clarington in Ontario for four intensive days of road tests. All cars were driven on different routes, highways, performance circuit, road circuit and all-terrain route, to simulate the range of conditions that are also experienced by consumers.
The 2017 Subaru Forester gets another trophy for the cabinet from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada, and is awarded with 2017 Canadian “Utility Vehicle of the Year” honors. The small SUV is a good choice for value-conscience consumers.
