I Have a 2025 Subaru Forester Sport, I Am Very Disappointed In the Heated Seats, Only Heats to 90 Degrees, So Disappointed, I Can Barely Feel the Heat On High!

Donna bought a 2025 Subaru Forester, and heated seats were among the top three wants for purchasing a new car. She got them on the new SUV, but they did not meet her expectations. She wrote Subaru but is now even more upset. Here is her frustrating story.

I am very disappointed in the heated seats in my 2025 Subaru Forester.

That's what Donna wrote to me in an email asking if I knew if this was a common problem that other new Subaru Forester owners were having. Her problem is that the heated seats in her new Forester Sport do not get warm enough.

Imagine doing your research and finding the perfect car. When you purchase the new vehicle, you ensure it has heated seats because they are high on your desired features list. However, when you go out on a cold morning and turn the heated seat switch on, the seats do not get warm enough. That's what happened to Donna. Here is her frustrating story.

Donna's frustration with the heated seats in her 2025 Forester Sport, which she feels does not get warm enough, is evident in her email to me.

Here is Donna's initial email to me:

Donna said, "I have a 2025 Subaru Forester Sport. I am very disappointed in the heated seats. They only heat up to 90 degrees! I contacted Subaru headquarters, and they said it is a safety feature. I'm so disappointed. I can barely feel the heat on high! Anyone who values heated seats should be aware of this. They, Subaru, told me no fix. Ugh! Do you know anything about this? Please advise your readers. Thanks!"

I told her I was unaware of any heated seat issues with the new next-generation 2025 Forester compact SUV. I told Donna I would check it out and get back to her.

I researched the issue and did not find out any new information. So, I contacted Aaron Cole, Product Communications Manager at Subaru of America. I told him what Donna said, and here is his response.

Aaron says, "According to the latest information I could find from 2020, the heated seat operation may reach up to 100 degrees F before the thermistor cycles off, although the temperature in the seat depends on several factors, including upholstery and ambient temperature."

I told Donna what I had found out, sent her the information I had received, and asked her to send me any more details so I could tell her story. She filed a complaint with Subaru of America, which was the right thing to do.

She sent me her correspondence with Subaru of America's customer support

Donna says, "Here is the reply I got from Subaru about my seats...not acceptable…in this cold weather, you barely feel like they are on!"

From Subaru of America Customer Advocacy

Good Afternoon Donna,

My name is Jay from Subaru of America, and I have received your case regarding the displeasure with the heated seats on your 2025 Forester Sport.

I am very sorry to hear about your displeasure with the heated seats. I understand you are looking to get the seats higher than 90 degrees, but they, sadly, are not made to exceed that temperature. I know this is frustrating for you, but this temperature was put in place as a safety concern. Sadly, no adjustment can be made to go beyond the 90-degree limit either.

Should you have any further questions or concerns, please kindly reply back to this email or contact me via phone by using the number and extension provided below my signature. I thank you for contacting Subaru of America, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

Warm Regards,

Jay

Donna did not get any satisfaction from the note she received and was understandably unhappy that nothing could be done about the temperature of the heated seats.

She wrote back to me and said, "Here is the reply I sent them! My issue is still NOT resolved!"

Donna's determination to find a solution is clear in her response to Subaru's explanation for the seat temperature limit.

Dear Jay,

This answer is absolutely unacceptable. A safety concern?? You can't even feel the heat on your body with clothes on! Body temperature is 98 degrees!! As a safety concern, this is ridiculous. I am going to check with other manufacturers to see their perspectives.

According to the tech at Great Lakes Subaru of Findlay, others have complained about the same concern. I would never have purchased this car if I had known this issue, as heated seats are important to me!

This (heated seats) was in the top three wants for purchasing a new car. I will let all my friends/family know about this issue and never buy a 2025 Forester if they want heated seats!

I had a 2013 Honda Pilot with great heated seats. I wish I hadn't traded it in for the cold winter months I spend in northern Michigan! My elderly mother with back and hip problems and myself with back problems sure won't be looking forward to a long drive up north without the comfort of a heated seat.

Saying I am very upset does not even tell you how I feel about this! A $45,000 car, and this is the headache I get! I will call you tomorrow to talk to you directly, but obviously, you have already said it won't help.

A recall is what Subaru should do and please their customers! Here's hoping for a class-action lawsuit! I wish I could get my money back!

Conclusion:

Donna still awaits a resolution on her 2025 Subaru Forester Sport's heated seats. Unfortunately, there may not be a satisfactory one for her.

From what I can understand from the information from Subaru, the previous generation Forester seats would heat to 100 degrees before cycling off (depending on several factors, including upholstery and ambient temperature). I can only imagine how disappointing this must be for Donna.

The 100-degree temperature in the previous generation Forester's seats would likely have been hot enough for Donna.

However, it appears that Subaru Corporation has significantly changed the new next-generation 2025 Forester's heated seats, lowering the maximum temperature to 90 degrees. Subaru says it's for "safety concerns" and does not explain further.

Donna writes back to me and says, "Thank you. I really hope they remedy this issue! Most people who want a heated seat, especially in the winter, are going to be very disappointed in these seats."

We want to hear from you.

Reciprocal corporate automotive excuse for a ridiculously dumbed down product! People buy heated seats for various reasons most of all for comfort, to pay that kind of money for a car and have lackluster heating coils in the seat because they feel it's unsafe is absolutely ridiculous! I suggest the woman go to an upholstery shop and have them install a new heated grid in both seats with a manual switch to bypass the Subaru junk, then she will be able to have the heat that she needs. Subaru should be ashamed of themselves!

There is a Facebook group of owners of 2025 Foresters that includes lots of complaints about the heated seats. Subaru has issued a bulletin to supposedly fix the problem with the temperature. Interestingly, some owners claim their heated seats are fine while others, including me find them not to be very warm. Makes you think that maybe Subaru realized the problem during production and fixed it but cars that were already built have the problem. Just speculation on my part. Also, I traded a 2022 Forester Touring for a 2025. The heated seats on the 2022 got hot and didn’t seem to create a safety hazard. Have not done the bulletin fix yet but hoping it will make the seats warmer than they are now.

Hi I also have the 2025 Forester and agree the heated seats are not as hot as my Toyota Camery. I do like the combination of heated seats and steering wheel on cold Canadian winter drives. I normally turn of these features off after about ten minutes of driving as the heater is more than adequate to keep us warm in the vehicle. Thanks

We purchased a 2025 Forester Touring in early December. We've found the heated seats to work well. There are three settings of warmth, and I would use full power initially and later turn it down or off. Once the cabin has warmed up, I find there's not much need for it.

From my perspective the heated seats work well. We're really enjoying the new Forester.

I have 2 issues with my new 2025 Forester Touring edition. 1) there is not a home button on the rear view mirror to connect to my garage opener. All my previous Touring editions have included this feature & it is very inconvenient now to enter & exit my garage.
2) the storage in the doors, pockets, & even the glovebox are very small.
Both of these items make me regret switching to the Subaru from my previous CRV.

There has been a reprogram out for 2025 Forester heated seats for about 2 months now, it will raise the seat temps

I recently purchased a 2025 Subaru Forester Premium and find when using the heated seats along with the cars heat controls, I’m fine with how hot the seats get. As a matter of fact, after a while I need to turn the heated seats off. I believe that heat control is always a matter of preference. I prefer not to be too hot.

I agree 100%. It doesn’t snow where I live but still gets cold in the winter. We just purchased a 2025 Forester Sport and the seats on the highest setting don’t really help. My wife’s Audi Q4 etron heated seats are much better and they get heat up extremely fast compared to the Forester

Matt (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 1:35PM

This is probably the most petty thing I've ever heard. You should have tried the heated seats in a test drive if it was that big of a concern. This is borderline slander and I hope Subaru sues accordingly.

Greetings Dennis. I've written you before when I owned a 24 Forester Wilderness. Well, I traded that in on a 25 Forester Limited and I wanted to comment on Donna's post. I too noticed the lack of warmth in the heated seats especially coming off a 24. How was it not a safety issue in the 24?? Or any other year for that matter. Are there any issues with heated seats from Subaru? Keep plugging Donna!

Ryan (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 2:43PM

I have a 2022 WRX. I barely use the heated seats feature because it gets way too hot. My wife has the 2025 Forester. I find the heated seats to be a much more appropriate temperature.
You can't please everyone.

Erin (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 3:41PM

There is a fix for the insufficient seat heater on the Forester. There is a software update the dealership can do they can reference the bulletin 12-256-24. It is titled insufficient seat heater output. Hope this helps!

Jonathon (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 5:53PM

I bought a new 2024 Crosstrek. My seat heaters get very hot (in the hottest setting). With the new screen for the ‘25 Forester, is she certain she selected the highest setting? She said heated seats top three items for purchase. So, she has to take some blame that she didn’t verify the seat heater would be hot enough. She could trade it in for a new Crosstrek as she shouldn’t have any issues with the heated seats. Just my 2 cents no one asked for. lol

Fay Decker (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 6:00PM

I own the 2025 Forester Sport. I previously owned a 2015. I did notice that the seats were not as hot in my new car. Living in South Florida it isn't as important, but I'm sure I will be disappointed if I travel North. I don't know how a class action would be helpful unless Suburu published a temperature of 100 but only provided 90. I don't know if it did. I haven't waded through all of the manuals yet. I do love my Forester though!

Becky Dinsmore (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 6:25PM

My 2025 Forester Touring has dual heat/AC seats and both don’t do either well. The heat is far less than my previous 2023 Forester Touring. I can barely feel both heat and chilly air.
It’s a huge disappointment as like Donna it was a selling factor for me.
My 2023 would get so warm I’d have to shut it down, but the 2025 I really don’t even feel it on high.
Other than that the vehicle is awesome!

Matt S (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 7:10PM

Not to victim shame here. I definitely understand the frustration in getting something different than expected....but I learned the importance of a thorough test drive. If this was such a critical point of buying the vehicle, one should test the feature to its full extend to be happy or learn about the car enough to decide if you want ir or move on.

Mary Ann (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 7:20PM

I live in Northern New York. I am always cold.
My 2025 Forester heated seats are excellent. I actually have to turn them off at times.
It is cold here, 20 or 30s during the day, at times below zero in the winter.
I was surprised to read this.

Ren (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 8:17PM

Heated seats in subaru have always sucked. My 2018 forester xt also has lousy seat heaters. It takes a long time to feel any heat and it still isn't very hot. Ive owned a ford w seat heaters and they rocked. They get so hot quickly that you turn them down. The subaru seats get warm-ish then they cycle off and it takes a while before they cycle on again. Probably the biggest complaint i have about this car

Rose Loukinas (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 8:41PM

My questions… , is this only for Forrester's or all 2025 Subaru vehicles? What safety issues have there been with the seat heaters for them to warrant a change ? Are they doing this just to save money?

Rob (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 8:46PM

We've just purchased a '24 Outback.

Subaru are a conservative company with a focus on safety. My guess is that 100F in previous models has been found to be too hot for some people (for example
with circulatory problems?), possibly leading to an injury, so the specification has been lowered FOR SAFETY REASONS.

If that's the case, I'd applaud Subaru attempting to protect people.

Jeanine C (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 9:34PM

We purchased a 2025 subaru Forester in July 2024. While I don't know how hot they get temperature-wise, I definitely agree that I really can't feel the heat. Prior to this car, I drove a Chrysler pacifica and the seats would get so hot, I'd have to turn them off after a while. I've never had to do that in the Forester because the heat is minimal even on the highest setting 😔

Dorian Markd (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 9:39PM

I agree with her. The seats do not heat up enough even on high. It isn't a deal breaker for me, but I would much prefer them hotter on high. As it is, I would never set the temp in the middle if I wanted them to heat up. Even on high, you do barely feel it.

Candi Kraning (not verified)    December 16, 2024 - 10:31PM

I also have a Suberu Forester. I am also very upset about the heated seats. I would not have spent money for heated seats that doesn't really heat up!

Derek (not verified)    December 17, 2024 - 12:22AM

A Subaru Forester sport is about $30k, not $45k. My wife has one and the heated seats on "low" is plenty warm. Maybe this person should see a doctor?

Ruth (not verified)    December 17, 2024 - 12:48AM

I bought a 2025 Forester Premium in November and I am disappointed with the heated seats. They are barely warm and seems to turn off at times.

It could be altered rather easily but it's a job. You can play with resistance to.. get what ya need in theory while keeping the computers happy. In practice? For me a 1 day job (both fronts) I'd do it for free but it's the internet.
