I Have a 2025 Subaru Forester Sport, I Am Very Disappointed In the Heated Seats, Only Heats to 90 Degrees, So Disappointed, I Can Barely Feel the Heat On High!

Donna bought a 2025 Subaru Forester, and heated seats were among the top three wants for purchasing a new car. She got them on the new SUV, but they did not meet her expectations. She wrote Subaru but is now even more upset. Here is her frustrating story.

I am very disappointed in the heated seats in my 2025 Subaru Forester.

That's what Donna wrote to me in an email asking if I knew if this was a common problem that other new Subaru Forester owners were having. Her problem is that the heated seats in her new Forester Sport do not get warm enough.

Imagine doing your research and finding the perfect car. When you purchase the new vehicle, you ensure it has heated seats because they are high on your desired features list. However, when you go out on a cold morning and turn the heated seat switch on, the seats do not get warm enough. That's what happened to Donna. Here is her frustrating story.

Donna's frustration with the heated seats in her 2025 Forester Sport, which she feels does not get warm enough, is evident in her email to me.

Here is Donna's initial email to me:

Donna said, "I have a 2025 Subaru Forester Sport. I am very disappointed in the heated seats. They only heat up to 90 degrees! I contacted Subaru headquarters, and they said it is a safety feature. I'm so disappointed. I can barely feel the heat on high! Anyone who values heated seats should be aware of this. They, Subaru, told me no fix. Ugh! Do you know anything about this? Please advise your readers. Thanks!"

I told her I was unaware of any heated seat issues with the new next-generation 2025 Forester compact SUV. I told Donna I would check it out and get back to her.

I researched the issue and did not find out any new information. So, I contacted Aaron Cole, Product Communications Manager at Subaru of America. I told him what Donna said, and here is his response.

Aaron says, "According to the latest information I could find from 2020, the heated seat operation may reach up to 100 degrees F before the thermistor cycles off, although the temperature in the seat depends on several factors, including upholstery and ambient temperature."

I told Donna what I had found out, sent her the information I had received, and asked her to send me any more details so I could tell her story. She filed a complaint with Subaru of America, which was the right thing to do.

She sent me her correspondence with Subaru of America's customer support

Donna says, "Here is the reply I got from Subaru about my seats...not acceptable…in this cold weather, you barely feel like they are on!"

From Subaru of America Customer Advocacy

Good Afternoon Donna,

My name is Jay from Subaru of America, and I have received your case regarding the displeasure with the heated seats on your 2025 Forester Sport.

I am very sorry to hear about your displeasure with the heated seats. I understand you are looking to get the seats higher than 90 degrees, but they, sadly, are not made to exceed that temperature. I know this is frustrating for you, but this temperature was put in place as a safety concern. Sadly, no adjustment can be made to go beyond the 90-degree limit either.

Should you have any further questions or concerns, please kindly reply back to this email or contact me via phone by using the number and extension provided below my signature. I thank you for contacting Subaru of America, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

Warm Regards,

Jay

Donna did not get any satisfaction from the note she received and was understandably unhappy that nothing could be done about the temperature of the heated seats.

She wrote back to me and said, "Here is the reply I sent them! My issue is still NOT resolved!"

Donna's determination to find a solution is clear in her response to Subaru's explanation for the seat temperature limit.

Dear Jay,

This answer is absolutely unacceptable. A safety concern?? You can't even feel the heat on your body with clothes on! Body temperature is 98 degrees!! As a safety concern, this is ridiculous. I am going to check with other manufacturers to see their perspectives.

According to the tech at Great Lakes Subaru of Findlay, others have complained about the same concern. I would never have purchased this car if I had known this issue, as heated seats are important to me!

This (heated seats) was in the top three wants for purchasing a new car. I will let all my friends/family know about this issue and never buy a 2025 Forester if they want heated seats!

I had a 2013 Honda Pilot with great heated seats. I wish I hadn't traded it in for the cold winter months I spend in northern Michigan! My elderly mother with back and hip problems and myself with back problems sure won't be looking forward to a long drive up north without the comfort of a heated seat.

Saying I am very upset does not even tell you how I feel about this! A $45,000 car, and this is the headache I get! I will call you tomorrow to talk to you directly, but obviously, you have already said it won't help.

A recall is what Subaru should do and please their customers! Here's hoping for a class-action lawsuit! I wish I could get my money back!

Conclusion:

Donna still awaits a resolution on her 2025 Subaru Forester Sport's heated seats. Unfortunately, there may not be a satisfactory one for her.

From what I can understand from the information from Subaru, the previous generation Forester seats would heat to 100 degrees before cycling off (depending on several factors, including upholstery and ambient temperature). I can only imagine how disappointing this must be for Donna.

The 100-degree temperature in the previous generation Forester's seats would likely have been hot enough for Donna.

However, it appears that Subaru Corporation has significantly changed the new next-generation 2025 Forester's heated seats, lowering the maximum temperature to 90 degrees. Subaru says it's for "safety concerns" and does not explain further.

Donna writes back to me and says, "Thank you. I really hope they remedy this issue! Most people who want a heated seat, especially in the winter, are going to be very disappointed in these seats."

We want to hear from you.

Yes, my 2025 Forester seats do not heat nearly like the one I had on 2019 Forester. I complained to the agency and they said it could not be increased. Ugh. Now I see a lot of other people are complaining about this. It's totally ridiculous

I too have a 2025 Forester Limited and the heated seats are ineffective. They don't get warm or hot.I can barely feel any heat. Also the heated steering wheel only heats the bottom of the wheel - 9 and 3 position. Penny pinching Subaru! Shame on them.

I was an owner of a 2015 subaru crosstrek, my heated seats were amazing! I just upgraded to a 2025 subaru forester. And sadly, Donna is correct! You cannot feel the heat in the seats. Mine are not leather, just standard premium package cloth seating.

I purchased a 2025 Forester this summer and while my disappointment has not reached the level of Donna's, I do see a very stark difference between these seats and the heated seats in my friend's 2024 Outback. The Outback's warm more quickly and get warmer. Though, I will say that the Foreester seats do seem to get warmer when I remote start my vehicle than they do if I start them once I'm out and about. I haven't brought it to Subaru's attention, but I had planned to ask about it when I go in for my next service.

Purchase my Subaru Forester 2023 on December 8th of December 2024 my heat is seats do get warm, I think they're very warm especially on a very cold day cuz I don't have a garage to put my car in so when I start my car up from my apartment and you have a coat on and you're very warm inside I think my seats get very nice and cozy. How hot do you want them to be I mean once they're on and you got the coat on and the heat on it gets very warm.

I just bought a’25 Forester Limited and on the high setting, the seats actually make my lower back sweat. So far, I love the vehicle and the seats and can only leave them on high for a few minutes and then am comfortable on the low setting.

We recently purchased a 2025 Forester limited and you can barely tell the seats have any heat at all. It was one of the features we wanted in the new car and my wifes 2012 BMW she traded in and my 2017 GMC pickups heated seat are enormously better. It is definitely very disappointing to both of us.

I bought a 2025 Subaru sport this year because I was in a car accident this past September. I had a 2020 forester sport and I feel it saved me so wanted the same thing. I must admit I noticed the heated seats didn’t get near as warm as my 2020. I do wish they would heat a little more but it’s not a deal breaker for me. I was more sad that the car didn’t have a cd player but I knew that buying it. Overall I love the forester sport. It rides nice and from experience I know it saves lives when needed.

What a bunch of garbage ! Subaru got great heated seats and temperatures are within safety. It's got two positions LOW AND HIGH.Even LOW is sufficient on a cold day.High will be Hot ! Check your brain with your Doctor !

I have a 2020 Forester touring. I feel the same way about the heated seats. They don't get warm enough. I have driven a lot of other car brands and their seats get warm a lot quicker and they are warmer.

I purchased a 2025 Forester Sport and have just started using the heated seats. I was like , " man these are not as good as the ones in my Ford." I was thinking about calling the dealership. But now I know it's the manufacturer. I too am VERY disappointed. The car overall has been a disappointment.

I have a 2025 forester sport and I LOVE it! I live in Minnesota and with windchills at negative 30 the seat warms me up Just fine.

I purchased a 2024 Forrester early in 2024. I am short and it was the first car that I drove that fit me and was in my price range. The heated seats were important to me since I have a back problem and having the heat on my back when I drive is helpful. The car I owned before this one was a Ford Escape. I never checked the temperature of those seats, however the amount of warmth from them was perfect. Too bad I didn’t choose another Ford product when I needed a new car, The amount of heat that the seats in the Forrester produce is almost useless. I can barely feel it when it is on high. Very disappointing!!! Would I ever buy another Subaru - not unless the seats were fixed.

Charlene Starks (not verified)    December 18, 2024 - 3:18PM

I have a 2024 Forester and I agree, the heated seats are a waste, on high they barely get warm and forget about low , I live in snow country and my old car would warm you thru your snow pants, this SUV is a great car, but not the warning seats

JohnWC (not verified)    December 18, 2024 - 3:51PM

Really? My belief has always been that heated seats operate to take the chill off a cold seat, not the person sitting in it. That's why cars have heaters with powerful blower motors.

Jeff (not verified)    December 18, 2024 - 5:52PM

She’s right.
The heated seats barely heat up…maybe slightly warm.
That said it’s the same on our 2024 Forester too.
Our 2022 Ford Bronco Sport gets really hilt on the Hi setting
Love my Subaru …hate the “heated” seats.

Jeremiah kellingbeck (not verified)    December 21, 2024 - 7:36PM

Maybe it's a liability issue. Subaru is worried about a lawsuit filled against them if someone claimed that the seat literally burn them if the temp is too high.

Timothy Pilny (not verified)    December 21, 2024 - 8:42PM

What is the standard for other vehicles comparable to the 2025 Forester? I have a 2018 subaru crosstrek premium. I frequently turn the seat heat from high to low after several minutes. I am in process of looking to purchase a new Forester. I need to take one for a drive.

Stephanie (not verified)    December 22, 2024 - 2:38AM

Hello I purchased a 2025 Subaru forester, and i have had it for about 6months now and i completely agree the seats does get warm enough at all. I often find myself going to turn it on only to realize it is already on and I can't even feel it! If I had the right tools I would measure the heat of the seats to test if they really are even getting to 90. I have also notice some other issues with the app.

Hans (not verified)    December 22, 2024 - 8:58AM

I would be soooo bummed! Brand new car (gulp!) and to have this very important Gotcha pop up. Pennsylvania is the same thing, you come to rely on the heated seats waiting for the HVAC to finally warm up. I’m even upgrading to the Limited on my next Highlander, expressly to get the heated steering wheel! Bad look on Subaru for their tepid heated seats. They will lose sales and good will.

Lisa (not verified)    January 5, 2025 - 10:33AM

I had the same exact experience as Donna. Subaru of America’s customer service was terrible and they gave me a run around and also left the dealership hanging. No satisfactory answer from them and no solution offered. I don’t think this is a safety feature. I think they’re just saying that to avoid dealing with the problem. I regret buying the car and have been very disappointed with Subaru. They do not deliver what they say they will.
